Regardless whether a social media platform thinks you're eligible for a blue check mark, you'll always hold verified status in my heart, First name / friend.

I get asked about this a lot. People see that I'm verified on Facebook and Twitter, and want help getting the blue check mark for their brand presence as well. While getting verified is something that I've facilitated for businesses and personal brands on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, you don't need assistance with it.

The good news is that you can request verification yourself on all three platforms. The bad news is that the platforms are strict about who is eligible and, while they do spell out their criteria, it still doesn't seem to be consistent as far as what profiles they approve and what profiles they don't.

Here are the direct links for each platform to go through the verification process. Be sure to read through the information and the requirements sections too:

Social Media News to Use

  1. MULTIPLE PLATFORMS: I don't blame you if you didn't look through Hootsuite's The Global State of Digital 2022 that I included in last week's News to Use. It's massive (300 slides) and has so much information. I did want to pull out some key slides that I think you should know about. I get asked how to know if a post was a "good post" regularly. While the answer to this is dependent on multiple variables, a good place to start is referencing the engagement rate benchmarks that are identified for Facebook (slide 128) and Instagram (slide 149). Are the posts on your accounts stacking up to those numbers? If you have a marketing team, an associate, a VA, or support of any kind, I hope they've either combed through this report already or you should send it to them to pull out golden nuggets of opportunity for your social accounts. Another key way this report comes in handy is if you have to answer to leadership, a board, or need to be the resident social expert. This arms you with powerful knowledge and data to reference, to put in decks, etc.
  2. INSTAGRAM: 90-second Reels? Maybe. Instagram may soon let you create longer Reels [XDA]
  3. LINKEDIN: Encouraging us to redefine "professional." Let’s Talk About What Is Professional Today [LinkedIn]
  4. META (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram): Adam Mosseri explains new 3D Avatars and why they're important.
  5. PINTEREST: No dressing room needed. Pinterest introduces AR Try On for Home Decor for the ultimate online home shopping experience [Pinterest Newsroom]
  6. TIKTOK: BookTok is booking. People Are Buying More Books Than Ever. Why? TikTok. [Tubefilter]
Always remember, you are worthy and enough. Life is fun. You got this.
