Back where I’m from in the northeastern United States, the ground is still blanketed in thick white snow, but out here where I live in the Pacific Northwest, we are experiencing our second “false spring”. The temperatures have gotten up to 60 degrees in the afternoon and the light purple crocuses are bursting over short hairs of deep green grass. The sun stays above the horizon until 5:30 and neighbors are out walking, congregating, and conversing.
According to Traditional Chinese Medicine we are currently—in the Northern Hemisphere—in the season of early spring. While green shoots and ripe buds may still feel far off for some, I challenge you to connect with the earth beneath you wherever you are and feel the shivers of early life. Seek out your local trees and gently examine the pregnant ends of their deciduous branches. If spring is the season of being sprung, we are certainly in the early stages of it.
This is another season of preparation, study, and composition. While the sun in Aquarian energy can be very mental and intellectual, the full moon in Leo invites us to find our glow and bask in it. Like a cat in the window, find warmth in extending generosity to yourself as much as to others during this lunation. A full moon in Leo has big feelings and a need to be seen and heard for those feelings. It is proud, compassionate, and fiercely loyal to those it considers part of the pack. However, it can make us feel sensitive to criticism, unable to face even the most constructive kind, which may be exacerbated by an EXACT conjunction between Venus and Mars when the moon is at its peak at 8:56am PST tomorrow. This Venus/Mars aspect has a need to be stimulated and can be quick tempered, but overall it is seeking harmonious relationships and union. Let this be your motivation whether giving or receiving feedback. When we seek resolution rather than being “right,” we create the space for something new to fulfill our needs and those of others.
Mercury has been direct since the 4th, and entered airy Aquarius on the 14th, so communication should feel lighter, less arduous. With Venus and Mars trine Uranus, and optimistic Jupiter sextile independent Uranus, we may also be experiencing some notions of positive idealism, and unusual interests. Let your freak flag fly and see who and what you attract! You may unexpectedly find a union and a commitment at this time could be really favorable.
FOR THE BODY
Leo rules the spine, the upper back, muscles of the heart, heart rate, blood pressure and aorta.

Posture check! Root through your seat and roll your shoulders back on an inhale. Exhale, drop the shoulders and lift out of the waist. Feel a little better?
â—¦ Get your blood pumping. Take a brisk walk, jog, or swim. While it's natural to slow down in winter, we want to move our chi and flush fresh blood through our system regularly.
â—¦
What are some of your accomplishments so far this year? Take some time to jot them down on a post-it for reference or take a whole 20 minutes to journal about them. Remember, it's only the beginning of the year, you don't have to have it all figured out. But giving yourself a pat on the back for getting out in nature one day a week will reinforce that reward system!
â—¦
Use bergamot, cedar and clary sage* oils in a diffuser or a pot of simmering water on the stove to add some blood-supportive aromatherapy and much needed humidity to your home.
*Clary Sage is contraindicated if you're pregnant
We talk a lot about individuation relative to the study of Human Design, and it’s an apt subject for Aquarius season. And yet, individuation exists in a paradox. To be individuated, one must also recognize the value of their individuation to the collective whole. Cosmic harmony asserts that everything in existence has inherent uniqueness and therefore dignity. We know ourselves to fulfill our purpose. However, there’s a preoccupation with being “special,” to the detriment of our inherent uniqueness. We seek “special” as relative to, or greater than, others. We use it as an excuse for self-responsibility and we lose the value of being a part of the collective community.
Human Design and other self-knowledge frameworks and tools are meant to expand our understanding of not only ourselves, but by proxy the complexity of all beings.
This is something I'll be talking about more on the Journal, so sign up to be notified of when that piece drops!
