This week's #CreateWithCatCoq challenge is inspired by one of my favorite new motif trends - mushrooms! We're starting to see mushrooms pop up everywhere, and they are such a cute and simple motif. This week I'd love for you to create a mushroom illustration and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq. One of my tips for artists who are new to art licensing is to key into upcoming trends. This will help you reach customers and brands who are searching for popular motifs, and mushrooms are a great trend to hop on this year! 

 

I originally painted this mushroom design and I loved how it turned out, but it was feeling a little dull.

 

 

 

The first step to making edits like this is to turn your hand-drawn illustration into a digital file. I know that this part of the process can be a challenge, so I put together a blog post tutorial all about how to turn your analog artwork into a digital file! Before I was able to brighten up these mushrooms, I had to scan them to get them from paper to screen. The new bedding line is inspired directly from my travels in Southeast Asia. Fan Palm was the first thing I watercolored after a family hiking trip in Vietnam. Retro Sunset was inspired by the vibrant color palette of Bali that I encountered while living there.
