We're back for 2022 and a new Podcast has been launched….
 
Welcome to 2022 and I hope you are all settling into the swing of things. January was a bit of a challenge wasn't it, with the stop / start of Covid and isolation for so many.
 
My family and I have had a really lovely slow start to the year, friends, gatherings, a holiday (not for Farmer Ross… just couldn't get away at this stage) and we've said goodbye to our youngest, Ollie. He's headed up to a cattle station near Mount Isa to work  and the realisation that I actually won't see him for at least 6 months is starting to unsettle me.
 
I know I'm not alone, all over Australia these past few weeks there are families grieving for their child who has just begun their boarding school years - and if you're anything like me that grief washed over me every year I sent the kids back to school. 
 
Keep an eye out for our blog this week where I discuss the all encompassing feeling of sadness as your family adjusts to the ‘new’ dynamics of having children at boarding school, uni or working a long way away.

Boarding Schools Profile
Ascham School is celebrating the 100th Anniversary this year of their unique learning framework, the Dalton Plan. The four pillars of the Plan—Independence, Responsibility, Collaboration and Reflection—are the solid foundation upon which Ascham students become independent learners and leave School with an extraordinary skill set.
Just one of the Class of 2021 students who flourished under the Dalton Plan was Camilla Thomson, of Walcha. Boarding at Ascham since Year 7, Camilla achieved an ATAR rank of 98.35and achieved her dream of studying a Bachelor of Economics and Advanced Studies in International Relations at the University of Sydney. 
She has also been invited to participate in the prestigious Dalyell Scholars stream, crafted for the next generation of global leaders.
‘A key advantage for me as an Ascham boarder was being able to reach my teachers,’ said Camilla. ‘Boarders’ Prep and living at School made it so easy to see them that it almost felt crazy not to whenever I had the opportunity.’ Camilla added that the ‘authentic, supportive and relatable connections’ with each other that are fostered within the Boarding Houses were by far the standout moments of her Boarding life at Ascham.

Have you ever wanted a true insiders' view of boarding school life ? One with no bias, one with a warts and all look at how being a boarder shapes a person's life ? Well, here it is ! We launched our first series of Destination Boarding, The Podcast, in mid January and what a hit it's proving to be ! 
Host (and ex-boarder) Lucy Samuels talks all things boarding, from packing those bags for the first time, to waving the kids goodbye, what to expect from life as a boarder and beyond! We're chatting to some phenomenal graduates who attended an array of boarding schools across Australia about how it shaped them into the people they are today!
We've heard from Wallaby, Ned Hanigan, about his first day at St Joseph's College, Hunters Hill - the lifelong mates, the have-a-go attitude. We've also welcomed Maddison Hohnberg from Trangie, NSW whose parents sacrificed so much to send her to Scots All Saints College at Bathurst along with her four siblings. She's now rising through the ranks of the Australian Navy - what an inspiration.
