Dear Families, Happy March! As I am writing this note I am hearing Susan's class prepare for their play--it is a complete joy to hear the children sing and step out of their comfort zone to perform! (We have put all the performance dates for the upper plays on the website calendar! and parents are welcome to come and watch those in-person). We continue to be very busy around here! Somehow March has arrived and there are a few important items on our horizon! Volunteer Opportunities: As you read the notes in this newsletter, you will find opportunities to step into important roles in our school next year. These include CEC Board vacancies as well as leading major school-wide events. I am hopeful that families are able to carve out time to consider how they can have a meaningful contribution in a volunteer capacity at our school. Thank you for taking time to consider these opportunities and supporting our school transitioning to our community-centered environment. Class Placement for Next Year: Teachers are beginning the very thoughtful process of placing children in classes for next year. Our official class lists will come out at the end of May. In the meantime I want to emphasize a few very important points. Building classes is about the whole community versus the individual child. Each child is looked at for the gifts he or she will contribute to a family group and we balance classes with the many other academic and social emotional considerations. We invite you to have conversations around what is best for your child at anytime; however, do kindly ask that we pause on requesting specific teachers as that is not part of our process at Chugach. We also want to clarify that siblings do not necessarily go to the same teacher a family has had with a previous child. Every child is different and we support new opportunities and experiences. I will send another note regarding class placement as it gets closer, I just want to let you know the work is beginning. As always you are welcome to email me with any questions. I hope families have a wonderful spring break! After break there is only 9½ weeks of school left before we head into summer. Our sixth grade students will begin a very important transition into their middle school journey and new parents hold excitement for that first day of kindergarten--these are exciting traditions we all can hold sacred. I look forward to seeing parents in the building--your presence is valued and welcome! Enjoy the light + the upcoming break, Clare |

Auction Chair- We are excited about the return of a beloved event at Chugach! The Auction brings together our community for a night of fun with the goal of raising funds to support our school budget. The auction takes place November 2022 but planning for this event needs to begin this spring. There is a robust framework from previous years and prior chairpersons willing to offer advice and guidance. Big Simple- This fundraising event kicks off each school year and directly supports the teachers in providing enrichment and supplies for their classrooms. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual or two to help promote and get out the word about the importance of Big Simple and how to contribute through our easy-to-use online system. If you are interested in filling one of these roles and have more questions, please contact Amy Mick (amybmick@gmail.com) or Nina Woods (nwoods@icloud.com). Thank you! CEC Board Positions Available for the 2022-2023 school year: Vice President Vice Treasurer Secretary Member at Large |

Hello Chugach families! We loved seeing so many of you on the February Community Assembly Meeting! We had a great discussion on Enrichment and supports for Chugach students. The March Community Assembly Meeting will take place on March 23 at 7 p.m. and will focus on the return to a "normal" Chugach culture of family engagement. This is an important conversation as many of our families have only experienced Chugach through the lens of Covid-19. Speaking of engagement, one of the best ways to engage with the school is by serving on the Chugach Educational Corporation Board (CEC). The CEC is the nonprofit arm of our school, similar to a PTA, and is responsible for non-ASD school funds. The CEC is also tasked with planning and hosting the Community Assembly Meetings, supporting event planning, volunteer activities and more. We have several board positions open for the 2022-2023 school year: - Vice President
- Vice Treasurer
- Secretary (this role can be split between two people)
- Member at Large
If you are interested in putting your name in the hat for a position on the board, please reach out to either Clare, your Parent Coordinator or email us at: chugachoptionalcecboard@gmail.com. We are also on the lookout for new chairs for the Chugach Auction and the Super Simple fundraiser! Wishing you all a fun and safe Spring Break! Tamar Ben-Yosef CEC President |
