WHY I LOVE MARCH
Image item
As March brought the first day of spring with the vernal equinox, it was the start of new beginnings. March became the third month when January and February, which were added to the end of the Roman calendar around 700 BCE, instead became the first and second months around 450 BCE. March brings with it the promise of gardening and warm(er), sunny days, as Earth turns its frostbitten cheek to winter and springs forth the Beautiful blossoming of flowers and excitement of nature. The month of March is a special month to me personally for various reasons. My son was born March 6th and my Birthday is March 14th. Yes, that is right! Pi Day! And being a Basketball enthusiast, NCAA March Madness is this month as well.
Below are some fun facts and dates of the month of March for your enjoyment.

  • March 1- Mardi Gras
  • March 8- International Women’s Day
  • March 13- Start of Daylight Saving Time
  • March 17- St. Patrick’s Day
  • March 20- Brings about the March equinox
  • March 29-31- Borrowing Days. According to lore, the last three days of
  • March have a reputation for being stormy.

NEW YEAR = NEW PAINT
Image item

This year I have decided to create my Fine Art pieces using new paints. I have always loved and used Artist's Loft or Liquitex acrylic paints, but recently I have found myself using a brand called GOLDEN. GOLDEN Open Acrylics stay "open" much longer than regular acrylics, which means they stay workable and moist for a longer period of time. For this reason, Golden Open Acrylics are great for plein air painting, wet-in-wet techniques, and blending to create smooth transitions of color. These paints also have an extremely high pigment load, which means the colors are bold and intense. Fluid acrylics flow smoothly and evenly from your brush, which is ideal for creating uniform brushstrokes.

FEATURED COMMISSIONED FINE ART
Image item

As the demand continues for my Fine Art work, I have had the wonderful opportunity to create some beautiful commissioned art for my collectors. Most recently two collectors of mine blessed me with the opportunity to create a Joanna Gaines portrait. I had never heard of Joanna prior to this request, but I submerged myself into her world and became truly inspired by her interior designing skills. This couple themselves had been inspired by Joanna and their reaction when they received their painting was priceless. The joy that arose from watching them open their painting, fulfills me and is exactly the reason I continue to work as hard as I do.
