Fran + Tig!
Hey! You might've read my instagram story on how my man James had to endure 30 minutes of a frustrated Fran while he took my portrait photo. Being on the other side of the camera doesn't come natural to me but also made me realise how much I enjoy watching people relax once they know they're in good hands.

Welcome to my monthly journal! A platform for me to tell the stories of the people and places I've photographed. 3 short stories, every month, that's the aim!

Come on this ride with me and get to know the stories behind the people that have moved me and other people along the way.

JESS

‘’I'm at a point in my life I'm so happy and proud of who I am'' is what Jess told me when I first spoke to her on the phone. And when she opened the door to her designer home she smiled from ear to ear. She poured us some hot tea and as I started taking photos we chatted about her passions. Jess is a rural midwife in the Queenstown lakes district and a as we looked at the beautiful view through her giant living room windows she told me how she loved driving around town in her dads' old Hilux to meet her clients. This was such a calm and beautiful shoot where I got more and more inspired the longer I photographed Jess.

LAURA

Ditching her office job and moving to Southland. That's what Laura did. Only five years ago she sat down with a blank piece of paper and drew what her dream life would look like: ‘’Whiskey in my hand while I'm sitting on the deck with my dogs.''

As the last light of the day disappears and Laura's 9 month old huntaway comes to collect a cuddle I look around and see what she's created for herself. A life on a farm, with dogs, horses, alpacas, deer and sheep. Laura's is not keeping this lifestyle it to herself. No. She shares it with anyone that wants to feel connected to the land. And soon she has a wee one that will get to grow up on this land and all its' freedom.

@realcountrynz is where you can follow Laura and her farming adventures.

Whataroa valley

In the distance the clouds covered the valley like a blanket. ‘’I can drop you off right here, halfway to your destination'' the pilot said. And so the chopper landed on the riverbed. We got out, held on to our backpacks as he took off and found our way to the trail. 3 hours of rugged Westcoast tramping trails led us to Whymper hut. A stunning wee hut surrounded by glacial mountains. The view we had in the morning? That's the photo you see right here.

See you next month.
My plans for upcoming month? Auckland shall be visited, excited to surround myself with some urban vibes. I'll also be hanging out in Wanaka for a few stories, exciting!!
