First name / Friend, we hope the year 2022 has been fulfilling and positive so far for you. Today, we at Arwani Law Firm would like to speak about a mental health condition that affects even the healthiest of individuals: Anxiety. According to the American Psychological Association, Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure. The present world is filled with advanced communication and an abundance of information that can trigger anxiety or make it even worse than in times before. According to psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Judson Brewer, the best way to think about Anxiety, especially if you want to treat it, is as a habit. Usually people say that Anxiety is a disorder, reaction, or feeling, but it is better to look at it as a habit. The way it works is that any action, thought, or situation that triggers the anxiety is then followed by your reaction, that then leads to a reward. It is a habit loop that can lead to other maladaptive behaviors like drinking, overeating and worrying. Dr. Brewer also explains that a hack you can apply to your Anxiety is to map it out, disenchanting your Anxiety-driven behaviors, and giving your brain a “bigger and better offer” by simply being more curious about your Anxiety. Anxiety can make its way into our daily lives and take away precious moments and opportunities for growth by getting in the way of your experiences. If you or a loved one are struggling with anxiety or depression please feel free to check out the resources below. As always, stay safe.
