This is the
irrational season,
When love blooms
 bright and wild.
Had Mary been
filled with reason,
There'd have been no
room for the child.

Let us rejoice in God our Savior
On March 25 we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation - the anniversary of the day the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary saying, “Greetings, O favored one!” and Mary responded with discernment, with consideration, with obedience, and with a breathtakingly deep trust in the Lord.

Why do we celebrate this on March 25?

Because it's exactly nine months before Christmas Day!

At the Feast of the Annunciation we remember Mary’s “yes” to God. By her obedience, the very Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us and that is worthy of celebration.
Pray
Pour your grace into our hearts, O Lord, that we who have known the incarnation of your Son Jesus Christ, announced by an angel to the Virgin Mary, may by his Cross and passion be brought to the glory of his resurrection; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Waffles
This feast day is more commonly known as “Lady Day” as Mary is frequently referred to as “Our Lady” in certain traditions.

As Lutheranism spread to Sweden in the late 16th century, Church holy days spread to Sweden as well. In Swedish, “Our Lady’s Day” is Vårfrudagen. This sounds an awful lot like their word for “Waffle Day” which is Våffeldagen.

And thus! The tradition of waffles to mark the Feast of the Annunciation was born and spread far and wide (for obvious reasons).

So enjoy some waffles on March 25 and celebrate God's goodness and Mary's gentle obedience. Only 40 weeks 'til Christmas!
