The Weekly Roundup

Good Morning Beautiful!

The end of the work week is here and we got that Friday feeling going on here in the office! I hope you all had a great week! My week was busy as usual, so not much new there, but there are a few changes going on in the beauty world that I found out about a few days ago starting with BH Cosmetics (BH stands for Badass with Heart. I just learned this recently). As some of you may know, BH Cosmetics filed bankruptcy in January of this year. Well, it seems that Revolution Beauty Group (Makeup Revolution, Makeup Revolution Pro) has acquired BH Cosmetics and will revitalize the brand with new products and utilize both Revolution Beauty and BH Cosmetics relationships in the U.S., U.K. and internationally. Second, we all know Ulta has partnered with Target and Sephora has partnered with Kohl's, now Walmart is partnering with Space NK. The new partnership is labeled “Beauty Space” and should be available on Walmart's website sometime this month and will be launching in 250 Walmart stores this summer. There will be 15 luxury brands available for purchase like By Terry, Foreo, Slip and more with prices ranging from $50-$200. Well, it seems that high-end and luxury beauty are realizing that they can no longer stay exclusive to a certain clientele and need to broaden their horizons by branching out and becoming more accessible to the masses. I think this will be good for Walmart since most of America shops there and hopefully this new partnership between Walmart and Space NK will be a success!

That's all I have for you this week. Now, let's move on to the rest of this week's roundup!

This Week's Favorites

Here's What I Have Been Loving This Week:

Eco Tools Buffing Brush – I rediscovered this brush recently and this is a great foundation brush! Applies foundation seamlessly and doesn't leave brush marks on the face and I have been using this brush every time I put foundation on. ($7.99)

e.l.f. Highlighting Brush– I love this brush! It's perfectly shaped to place the highlighter where it needs to be and this is my go-to brush to apply highlighter.  ($4)

Eco Tools Large Powder Brush– When it comes to face powder brushes, most of the ones I have tried are to big to use on my small face, but this brush is the right size for me and gets the job done. If you have a small face, this is the brush for you. ($8.99)

Sigma F60 Foundation Brush - I know this is a more expensive brush, but this brush applies cream and stick foundations like a dream and leaves no brush marks. ($22)

e.l.f. Pointed Powder Brush - I love this brush for bronzer! The pointed end of the brush is perfectly shaped to apply bronzer where it needs to be without getting bronzer all over your cheeks. ($6)

This Week's Failures

Here's What I Have NOT Been Loving This Week:

e.l.f. Beautifully Bare Satin Lipstick (in shade Touch of Pink) - This lipstick just isn't my shade anymore and I think it is also older than I thought, so I have removed it from my “Project Pan” basket and will replace it with another lip product that I want to use up. (this has been discontinued, so I cannot find a link for this lipstick)

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer (in shade Shortbread) - I have tried a few different ways to use this concealer, but it's a little to yellow for my skin tone and hard for me to apply it even with a damp makeup sponge, so I have also removed this from my “Project Pan” basket and will replace this with another product that I want to hit pan on or use up completely. ($30)

Understanding & Coping With The Loss Of A Pet

Hello my dear friends and happy FRIDAY!! I hope your week was as fantastic as mine was! I am sure you all have noticed that the picture above is not of me, it is a picture of my big sister Tillie Audriana (I am named after her, Audriana Tillie) who went to live at the Rainbow Bridge over two years ago. I did not know her personally, but mama tells me stories, shares memories and pictures of Tillie with me and I love learning all about my big sister, but sometimes mama gets sad when she talks about Tillie, and that got me thinking, how do pet parents deal with the loss of a beloved pet? So, off to the computer I went to research this so I can understand why mama feels sad when she thinks or talks about Tillie and I am sharing what I learned from my research along with some helpful tips to help those of you who are dealing with the loss of a pet.

Understanding & Coping With The Loss Of A Pet

The loss of a pet is devastating, and many pet parents find the grief associated with the loss of a pet just as or even more challenging than the loss of human loved ones. People who have not experience the deep love and companionship of a pet find this difficult to understand and may not be able to understand the experience of the person who is grieving. Leave from work is not typically granted when a pet passes. Funerals for pets are becoming more common but are still not commonplace. Because the loss of a pet is not experienced in the same universal way that we experience the loss of a human in our lives, pet parents often feel isolated and misunderstood during their grief. When someone’s pet passes, only those who love animals a great deal and regard them as members of the family understand the magnitude of the passing. That universal sense of support that we find so helpful in times of human loss and bereavement can be lacking when a pet departs. This lack of universal empathy is one of several reasons why pet bereavement poses unique challenges for grieving pet parents.

While the loss of a pet holds special challenges for the pet parent, the elements of grief that we feel when we lose a human still apply. For example, bereaved pet parents are plagued with irrational guilt. The last time you ignored the toy at your feet and turned away to finish work on your computer haunts you, even if you usually indulged your pet with playtime. Questions like “What if I hadn’t been two weeks late scheduling the annual veterinary exam?” taunt you, even when nothing could have changed the outcome. Bereaved pet parents are often angry that their pet was taken from them by disease or accident or just generally angry that pets are destined for a shorter life span than humans. For animal lovers, even a “long life” for our pet is simply never long enough. So, if you are struggling with the loss of a pet, consider the following tips to help you through your journey:
  • Your grief is valid. Some people who have a different type of understanding or relationship with animals may not be able to relate or support you in your time of need, while other animal-lovers who feel similarly to you understand the depth of your pain. Connecting with others who understand pet loss can help lessen the feeling of isolation and negative judgment you may experience from others in your life. Rainbows Bridge (https://www.rainbowsbridge.com/) is a wonderful free resource and online community for those grieving the loss of a furry family member.
  • You should not compare your grief to anyone else’s experience. Focusing on whose loss is “worse,” as some are wanting to do, is not helpful. What matters is that this is your loss, and you have to cope with it in your own way. Even if others do not respect that, respect that for yourself.
  • Realize that the guilt you feel is irrational in nature and is a normal part of the bereavement process. Simply knowing this will not stop these feelings from happening, but it will help you to work through them when they do.
  • Bereavement is a temporary state that feels like it is going to last forever. The passage of time will do a lot to help you to smile and laugh at the good memories and appreciate the positive impact that your pet had on your life.
  • You have a lot of love to give that can now be rechanneled. It is a very individual and personal decision if and when to invite another pet into your life. Realize that sharing your love with another animal is not a betrayal of your beloved pet. Opening your home and heart to another animal can be a way to honor your past pet. If you are unable or not ready to do so, consider volunteering your time or resources at an animal shelter or rescue or do something to celebrate the life of your furry friend.
The relationship humans have with their pets is, indeed, very, very special because pets love you unconditionally, they know all of your secrets and they depend on you for everything and when that is gone, life as you have known it, is gone too. If you are grieving the loss of a beloved pet, know that you are not alone in your grief, there are resources and online communities that you can reach out to for help and the emotional fog you are in now will clear in time and I hope these tips help you through this difficult time in your life.

That's all I have for you this week. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and weekend and I will bark with you all again next week!

This Week's Recipe
One-Pot Creamy Beef Stroganoff

This beef stroganoff recipe is basically magic. Just seven ingredients, and completely ready to serve in 30 minutes! If the addition of evaporated milk has you doubting this recipe, never fear; it cooks with the noodles to create an unbelievably creamy sauce, all in one pot. And talk about easy; you don’t even need to drain the beef. Just keep adding ingredients and let them simmer together into a satisfying stroganoff that’s the very definition of comfort food. Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:
  • 1 lb. 80% Lean Ground Beef (substitution: 1 lb. ground turkey or 1 lb. ground chicken)
  • 1 8 oz. Package Sliced Button Mushrooms (substitution: 1 8 oz. package of baby Portobello mushrooms)
  • ½ Cup Chopped Onion
  • ½ tsp. Salt
  • 1 32 oz. Carton Beef Broth (substitution: chicken broth if using ground chicken or turkey)
  • 1 12 oz. Can Evaporated Milk
  • 1 12 oz. Package Uncooked Medium Egg Noodles (about 7 cups)
  • 1 8 oz. Container Sour Cream
Directions:
  • In 5-quart Dutch oven, add beef, salt, mushrooms and onion and cook over medium-high heat 9 to 11 minutes, stirring frequently, until beef is brown, and onions and mushrooms are tender. Do not drain.
  • Stir in broth, milk, and noodles. Noodles will not be completely covered at first. Heat to boiling over high heat. Reduce heat; simmer uncovered 7 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, just until noodles are tender and most of liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat; do not drain. Stir in sour cream.
