The Vagus Nerve
The Vagus Nerve!
The excitement and fanfare surrounding this nerve has been BIG lately. Recently, there have been so many things shared about the vagus nerve and all its power. So many people have become fans of the vagus nerve and what it can do! In all of the hype (and yes the vagus nerve deserves all the hype), we want to make sure the information you receive is scientific and accurate. We are big fans of the vagus nerve, too! Amy has been studying the Polyvagal Theory and the vagus nerve for over 10 years and would love to share some of this knowledge with you.

With all of these “facts” floating out there on the internet about the vagus nerve, it can be difficult to determine what has been scientifically proven and what has maybe worked for a couple of people. We want to share three scientific facts with you about the vagus nerve. Enjoy!

1. It is a leading nerve in the function of the autonomic nervous system (ANS), which activates our flee, fight or freeze response when we don't feel emotionally safe.

2. It helps us successfully navigate our relationships AND helps us relax and sleep well.

3. It is a vital part of modulating our heart rate and you can use your breath to facilitate that.

We shared this graphic on social media a couple of weeks ago and it bears sharing here too! If you are looking for more information on the vagus nerve, follow us on Instagram and TikTok and find us on Facebook.
