STUDENTS OF THE MONTH

Meiya S., Voice
“Meiya always comes prepared
and ready to work! Her love for music shows in her hard work whether she is practicing at home or in lessons. She is a pleasure to teach and have in the studio!" ”-Ms. Tatum
Meiya's favorite song to sing is
drivers license by Olivia Rodrigo because it has a beautiful melody and her favorite part of taking lessons is how fun it is to practice and improve her singing skills.

Amara R., Violin
"Amara is always so kind and respectful! It is a joy to have her in class! She is eager to learn new things and is working hard at practicing piano. As her understanding of the basics has increased, her confidence has blossomed! It is so fun to be a part of this journey!!" -Chandra
Amara's favorite part of taking music lessons at Music Makers is her instructor Mrs. Chandra & learning the music. Her favorite song to play is “Join the Fun” because it is a really good, catchy tune.

Quinn W., Piano
"Quinn has been excelling in her lessons and doing a fantastic job! Both Dr. Kuo and Ms. Shelley were very excited that she learned to curve her fingers beautifully! She is a pleasure to have in lessons and works hard each week!"-Dr. Kuo
Quinn's favorite song is Minuet and Trio (in Classical Style) because it's so energetic and a good warm-up. Her favorite thing about music lessons is how nice the teachers are and just learning and playing.

Ellie H., Flute

Ellie recently placed 3rd  in the High School SENIOR Division in the 2022 Arizona Flute Society Festival and Competition! - Ms. Rachel Her  favorite part of taking lessons here is being able to accomplish goals she never thought would be possible! Ellie: "My amazing teacher has inspired me to always keep trying even if results may be slow to come. Practice Tips & Activites
Set goals for your practice time
+
Keep a practice log
+
Break up your practice time into smaller increments
+
Remember that practicing is NOT just about playing through your music (have fun with it!)
+
Repetition is key (Roll a dice and practice that many times)
+
Create a designated space just for practicing music
+
Try practicing backwards, playing the last measure first
+
Warm up mindfully (don't forget scales!)
+
Record yourself to track your progress
+
Play something completely new (sight read)!
+
Schedule a practice time into your daily routine
+
Remember to be kind to yourself. The only way to learn is to accept mistakes, they are how you learn
+
Play for someone else or a pet (or stuffed animal)
+
Remember that practicing is NOT just about playing through your music. Play a piece you already know for fun!
