The Weekly Roundup

Good Morning Beautiful!

The end of another work week is here and our hands are up here in the office because we sure do love Fridays! I hope you all had a fantastic week! It was busy in the office this week with planning blog content for spring and summer along with tossing around ideas for what's next for Glam Budget Boutique, so I am definitely looking for to the weekend to recuperate and prepare for next week! So, last week I talked about Revolution Beauty Group acquiring BH Cosmetics and Space NK partnering with Walmart, but I forgot to talk about Makeup Geek. Marlena Stell, owner of Makeup Geek announced in her latest YouTube video that she was closing Makeup Geek (which she started in 2012) because of the pandemic and supply chain issues. Makeup Geek was such an iconic independent makeup brand for quite a few years, and now they closing their doors in April. Makeup Geek is yet another casualty (along with many other businesses) of the two year long pandemic and current supply chain issues. I hope all that is going on in the world ends soon so we can pick up the pieces, heal from all of this and move on with our lives.

That's all I have for this week. Now, let's move on to the rest of this week's roundup!

This Week's Favorites

Here's What I Have Been Loving This Week:

Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser This is a great makeup remover/cleanser. I use to remove my makeup at night and it removes everything, even waterproof mascara and waterproof makeup. ($9.74)

Dr Teal's Pure Epsom Salt Foaming Bath (in Calm & Serenity with rose essential oil) I love Dr Teal's products, especially this one because I love the scent of rose and this smells like a bouquet of roses. A 20 minute soak with this in the tub and I feel wonderful afterwards. ($5.99 I couldn't find the foaming bath anywhere online, so I linked the Epsom salts)

Heritage Store Rosewater & Glycerin Face Spray – This facial spray is hydrating and the rose scent is wonderful. I use this after I cleanse my face before applying my serums, treatments and moisturizer, I love it! ($12.99)

Almay Healthy Hue Blush (in the shade 200 So Peachy) - The is a lightweight formula, very pigmented, so a little goes a long way and this shade for spring.  ($9.79)

This Week's Failures

Here's What I Have NOT Been Loving This Week:

Covergirl + Olay Simply Ageless Foundation (in shade 220 Creamy Natural) - It doesn't matter how I prep my skin or if I use a damp makeup sponge or brush, this foundation just sits on top of my skin, takes forever to dry down and settles into my facial expression lines. I am removing this from my project pan basket and decluttering it. ($13.99)

Bite Beauty Upswing Full Volume Mascara - The first time I used this mascara, it was absolutely wonderful. I had the length and volume that I love, but soon after application, my eyes became irritated and my eyes burned when I removed the mascara. I will not be using this again. ($14 mini size, $28 full size)

Questions To Ask When Adopting A Dog

My paw is raised because I love Fridays!! I am so looking forward to the weekend because mama told me that if the weather is warm and not windy, she may take me to the dog park! As far as I know, I have not been, so I am hoping for good weather so I can check this park out just for us dogs!! You know, there are times I really wish I could tell mama all about my life (like if I have been to the dog park) before she adopted me from the shelter so she can understand me better, but I can't and that got me thinking, when it comes to adopting a dog from the shelter, what questions should be asked before adopting a dog so you can make the best decision. I searched the internet and found quite a bit of information on this subject and I am sharing what I found out with all of you:

QUESTIONS TO ASK WHEN ADOPTING A DOG

Adopting a dog is a big and wonderful decision. From preparing emotionally and financially to understanding the type of dog that best fits your lifestyle, the list of things to consider when adopting a dog can be long, so here are some questions you should ask while at the shelter, and ones you should ask yourself, in order to ensure a pawsitive process for you and your new fur baby!

WHICH DOG IS THE BEST FIT FOR ME? From health history to behavioral needs, here are some questions to ask when you are adopting a dog:

Why is this dog in a shelter? Knowing why the dog ended up in the shelter (abandonment, stray, rescue) will help you to understand the animal’s potential emotional needs and what the dog will  require of you.

Where was the dog found and in what condition? A dog who was surrendered by an owner may be in a different physical condition then a stray found on the street. Understanding where a dog has been helps you to be the best dog parent that you can be!

Has this dog been adopted before? It helps to know if there have been unsuccessful adoption attempts in the past. Perhaps the shelter has already learned that the dog is happiest as a solo animal - this will be useful information if another pet is in your future.

Is this dog housebroken and/or leash trained? Do you have the bandwidth to housetrain and/or leash train a dog? Understand your abilities as a new dog parent before falling in love with an untrained pup.

Does this dog require special medical attention? Some people find rehabilitating animals to be therapeutic, while others may find it overwhelming. Knowing what you are capable of will help you and each shelter dog to find their perfect match.

AM I THE BEST FIT FOR THE DOG?

From the size of your home to your daily activities, here’s what to look for when adopting a dog:

SIZE: Large dogs require space to run around and safely wag their tails. Smaller dogs can exist in smaller spaces and be easily carried with you on a daily. Know which one best fits your lifestyle.

ACTIVITY LEVEL: While some dogs have excess energy and make great running companions, others prefer a more low-energy lifestyle. Think about your own activity level and find a pup that will compliment it.

PHYSICAL MAINTENANCE: Choosing a dog breed will affect the amount of physical maintenance they require. Mastiffs often require a slobber cloth for excess drool, while breeds with long ears can be prone to frequent ear infections. Know what you are willing to take on as far as physical maintenance.

AGE: It’s important to know your limits on age when choosing a dog. Whether you are happy to fall in love with a senior dog, or think you are better suited for a young pup, be sure to tell the shelter so they can find the right match for you.

The adoption process is one that requires time and patience but is so worth it in the end. Ask yourself and the shelter questions about what to know before adopting a dog, so that you get exactly what you are looking for in your new furry best friend.

That's all I have for you this week. I hope you all have a fun filled Friday and weekend and I will bark with you all again next week!

This Week's Recipe
Baked Rigatoni With Beef

Baked Rigatoni With Beef

Make this Baked Rigatoni with Beef the hero of any weeknight. Loaded with rigatoni pasta, ground beef, two different types of cheese and plenty of sauce, this hearty and comforting baked rigatoni will have everyone at the table asking for seconds, even the picky eaters. Serve this hearty pasta bake with a tossed green salad and garlic bread for a full family meal. If you have leftovers, you can store this dish in an airtight container and keep it in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients:
  • 2 ¾ cups Uncooked Rigatoni Pasta
  • 1 lb. 80% Lean Ground Beef (substation: 1 lb. ground turkey or 1 lb. ground chicken)
  • 1 26 oz. jar (26 oz.) Tomato Basil Pasta Sauce
  • 2 Cups Shredded Part-Skim Mozzarella Cheese
  • ½ Cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh Basil Leaves (optional)
Directions:
  • Heat oven to 350°F. Spray 13x9-inch (3-quart) glass baking dish with cooking spray. Cook and drain pasta as directed on package; return to pasta-cooking pot.
  • Meanwhile, in 10-inch skillet, cook beef (season with salt and pepper to taste) over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until thoroughly cooked; drain, and add to pot with pasta.
  • Add pasta sauce and 1 cup of the mozzarella cheese to pot with pasta and beef; stir to combine, then pour into baking dish. Sprinkle with remaining 1 cup mozzarella cheese and the Parmesan cheese.
  • Cover with foil; bake 25 to 30 minutes or until casserole is at least 165°F in center. Garnish with basil.
