Hello Chugach families! Happy Spring!
Spring is a time of renewal, and this spring feels especially bright with renewed energy and buzzing activities in the school as parents start making their way back into the classrooms. We have loved seeing you all in person in and outside the school!
We just have a couple of months left for school but they are packed! Spring Fling, Upper school plays, Art Night, two Community Assembly Meetings, garden club, track... and last but most certainly not least - CEC elections! We have four CEC board vacancies: Vice president (one year spent as VP and one year as President), Vice treasurer (same as the VP role), Secretary and Member at Large. All board seats are two-year terms.
Want to know more about each role? We've got you covered! Please feel free to reach out to any of the current CEC board members to learn more about being part of the CEC or more information about any of these specific roles.
Vice President:
The Vice President serves in this role for one year and then transitions to the role of president for the second year of their term. The VP role is a great one because it offers the opportunity to participate in all CEC activities, including voting, while learning about the CEC's responsibilities (and opportunities!) and about the role of president without the pressure of the president's responsibility right off the bat.
This role serves in partnership with the CEC president and supports planning efforts of the community assembly meetings and the CEC monthly meetings. Responsibilities include participating in one CEC meeting monthly and one CAM meeting monthly, with ongoing communication with fellow CEC board members via email. This year we had the pleasure of hosting Coffee for Parents.
Vice Treasurer:
The Vice-Treasurer position is a voting member of the board and is a direct supporting role to the Treasurer. You will learn the ins and outs of the current budget and assist in drafting a budget for the following school year. Any prior accounting or financial experience with a basic understanding of QuickBooks is highly recommended. The normal tasks include collecting receipts from teachers, fielding special fundraising requests, responding to budgetary inquiries, and assisting the Treasurer. The Vice-Treasurer will become the Treasurer in the following school year.
Secretary:
The Secretary records and makes available the minutes of all CEC Board meetings and Chugach Assembly meetings (one of each per month, August through May). Minutes are logged in Google Docs and after approval from the Board, are sent to the front office staff to post on the school's website. A printed copy of the minutes is also posted in the multipurpose room at school. The Secretary is a great position to share between two people or for a well-organized individual that is comfortable multi-tasking. It is a wonderful opportunity to be present for and aware of school happenings but also have plenty of time to volunteer with other committees and projects within the school!
Member at Large:
As a voting member of the executive board, the member at large is pivotal for passing resolutions, approving budget requests and making changes to the Chugach Assembly. Though not assigned with a specific task such as the secretary or treasurer, the member at large is a very supportive role. This position fills in the gaps and jobs that would otherwise be vacant. With a variety of roles, the member at large stays extremely engaged with interesting and ever-changing volunteer work.
