pt. 3

Hi First name / friend! I wanted to take a moment to thank you for being a part of my journal journey.

When there are no immediate colleagues you can chat with, any contact I get I appreciate! The fact you signed in for my journal feels like the support I need. I'm very happy I can share some of these crazy, beautiful stories with you.

gypsy

With a huge smile Gypsy enters the courtyard with three wiggly giant pieces of seaweed. Everyones’ mind is blown and I hear Emily say: ‘’Only Gypsy can come up with this’’. Instantly everyone is inspired, knowing that Gypsy will create something new and exciting.

‘’When we were down in Riverton on summer holidays'' Gypsy tells me ‘’we went to the beach and saw all this seaweed and I’m just like: ‘’Wow imagine that, seaweed in a flower arrangement. I’ve never seen anyone do it.’’ While arranging a yellow coloured floral statement piece we were chatting about her creative thought process.‘’My mind is constantly thinking about flowers. Wherever I go, whatever I’m doing I’m always observing nature. If I’m driving down the road I’d be looking around thinking - ‘’Oh there’s a really cool tree I can forage.’’

‘’I have always been obsessed with flowers. It’s something that my grandmother and mum passed down on to me.'' The flowers she holds in her hands are home grown, as are the peaches we quietly nibble on.

‘’I’m always pushing myself to do something unique and creative. There’s always gonna be an element of surprise. Being a florist has made me think outside the box.’’

SCHÖNEBEN

You might not know this of me. I used to built snow parks throughout Europe. I worked my way up to be a parkdesigner, which pretty much means you're planning and build a freestyle park from scratch. I loved every moment of it, the creativity of finding lines, placing obstacles, teamwork, working in the snowcat and the traveling you get to do.

I am helping the boys shape the park, perhaps a bit tipsy from the Aperol Spritz we drank an hour before. It is starting to get dark as we finish our work. We take a breather and look around. It's dead quiet, the mountain is empty, we're surrounded by pine trees and white mountains. I strap into my snowboard and while I look up I see the moon and the stars… wow! I thought as I take one last snap with my analog camera. The shutter isn't opening as it's freezing cold. ‘’Bugger'' I thought ‘’I lost that moment''.

As we leave the park, I hear the sound of hoofs. Not just from one animal, this is bigger than that. Around the corner I witness something straight out of a fairytale.
50 deer are crossing the snowy slopes from one forest patch to the other. Running as fast as they can and creating a beautiful mist from their hoofs catching the snow. They run into the forest, it is nearly dark but the white snow lits up enough to see the snow dust settling on the slopes again.
I am stunned, surrounded by these beautiful mountains, this gorgeous light and accompanied by great friends and the moon.

Months later I developed my film and it turns out the photo isn't lost at all, instead it added character and an epic memory.

IN SEARCH OF STORIES

As a storytelling photographer I am always on the look out for stories. Some of my work is commissioned but I do capture passion projects. Do you know a beautiful story that needs to be captured, perhaps your neighbour is just that cool, or your friend is battling and overcoming struggles? Let me know by replying to this email.

I hope to catch you in the next journal! In the meantime, feel free to get in touch if you'd like more information on anything photography/adventure related.
