Good Morning my friend,
A couple of weeks ago, I took a poll on social media and the majority of you said you would prefer a devotional at the beginning of the week as opposed to the end of the week…

So in the spirit of stepping out even when you are unsure, the weekly devos are officially back to grace your emails on Tuesday mornings. We are going to test it out:) I may not have a cute name for our Tuesday morning newsletter yet, but I didn't want that to delay me in starting up again. Maybe we will come up with a name together?

Lately, there have been two things that God has really been convicting my heart about that I want to share with you.
  1. I need to step out in obedience even when I don't know all the answers
  2. and obedience does not require my perfection.
And man, if I'm being honest, that last part is going to have to be something I reread over and over again. And then again. Anyone else????

So often, I wait to step out in obedience because I don't have all my ducks in a row. There is always more to research. A better design to make. More editing to do. I want everything to be perfect before I step out and show up in my calling. Just right and under my control. But it turns out, our efforts do not need to be perfect to be God-honoring.

I thought that doing my best meant striving for perfection, but how can that be my best when I was never meant to be that way?

Perfectionism relies on the sufficiency of our performance instead of the sufficiency of His sovereignty, power, and grace. And setting out with the goal of perfection will only stress us out and disappoint us because we were not designed for our efforts to be flawless anyway.

And wheeew, how humbling that is.

So I want to encourage all of my fellow perfectionists out there today:
You do not have to carry the weight of perfection.
You are allowed to start messy and be a beginner.
Your worth is not tied to your performance.
Your worth is not tied to your performance.
Your worth is not tied to your performance.

Read
  • Matthew 11:28-30
  • Galatians 1:10
  • Colossians 3:17
Reflect
  • Do you ever find yourself striving in the cycle of perfectionism?
  • If so, how does it make you feel?
  • How can we rest in the sufficiency of Jesus whenever we step out in obedience or something new?
Pray
Hey God,
It's me - the recovering perfectionist. Thank you Lord, that you have shouldered the weight of perfection and that I do not have to carry it. Thank you that you ask me to come as I am and to be obedient. I ask that you strengthen me to step boldly into where you are leading instead of becoming paralyzed in the pursuit of perfection. Thank you for your sufficiency, grace, and strength that you extend to us.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.
New for you
