HOW TO FIND THE “RIGHT” PRICE:
Follow these 3 easy and powerful steps (it takes less than 5 minutes!):
Step 1) LOW END:
Imagine the lowest figure you could possible charge for some product or service in your business. Say you’re a breathwork facilitator. Charging £60 for an hour’s online session is the lowest you feel you could do, without starting to feel a slight pinch of awkwardness/resentfulness. Your face may even screw up at the suggestion of something lower than that price of £60. You hesitate even saying yes… Give it a go now, and find that figure for you. Pick and product or services and ask yourself: what’s the lowest you could charge at before you feel icky? Write that down. That's your low end figure.
Step 2) HIGH END:
Now imagine that a super wealthy person with epic resources approaches you. They profess their deep respect and admiration for your work and they say:
“I really want to work with you. And I want to pay above your normal rate by way of thanks for all you’ve done. Whatever figure is fine.”
(put aside any skepticism and allow yourself to believe this scenario, for the sake of this exercise!)
What is the top figure you could charge at, that may feel a bit uncomfortable? You’ll pull out all the bells and whistles here to really feel you can serve and give value at that higher rate. And beyond that top figure, some part of you cries in good faith:
“it’s too much to charge that!” 🙅♀
You may feel a tightness in your chest or jaw, or your shoulders may be raised. It may feel exciting but also a little scary and some disbelief there. Breathe into it!
Ok! So write that top figure down.
Step 3) GOLDILOCKS ZONE:
You’ve now got your low end and your high end figures. And somewhere in between will be your sweet spot! It’s your Goldilocks zone! Somewhere there is a price that feels good for you. You may still feel resistance to a certain figure - this is normal. I’d recommend that you get used to saying it aloud. Stand in front of the mirror and say what your service is and the price. For example:
“My breathwork sessions are £150/hour”.
Repeat it at least 10 times in the mirror - continue to consciously relax your body as you do this. Say it until you start to accept it. This is you firing and wiring new neural connections in the brain. It ain’t fluffy to do this - this is neuroscience!
Do this mirror technique before you pitch the price for the first time (even if it's written via email rather than spoken). It’ll land much more confidently when you’ve practiced it.
A client did this recently and a new day rate of £400/day was accepted. She was nervous to do it but she took the time to feel into her pricing, did the mirror technique. That’s a pretty sweet income right there, huh!
To really get value from this email, I’d love to invite you to pause and reflect: what price is in your Goldilocks zone?
And are you charging that already, First name / my friend?? If not, when can you have that conversation with your clients or boss? Get clear on when this can happen for you. Be bold and intentional.
