Dear Families, May is here and I am sitting down to write my last Scoop to the community. This month is full of events and performances that are such a joy to participate in after the pandemic. I heard families share how emotional it was to watch the Jungle Book play, put on by Susan's class, as we haven't been able to support those types of events in so long--I know many echo this sentiment. The children are so joyful and it is incredible to see them stepping out of their comfort zone to perform in plays! I want to invite all of you to two events this week-- Aladdin put on by Teresa's class (Thursday, May 5) and Art Night (Friday, May 6) to support our sister school in Malawi, Africa. This time of year is one that marks chapters opening and closing. I am reminded of that when I typed all of our incoming kindergarten names on class lists and I think about our sixth graders who are stretching their wings and soaring on to middle school. I join the children with my transition to Mt. View Elementary. All of you will be welcoming Joel, your new principal to Chugach. When I sat down with Joel, I shared with him how incredible Chugach is and was for me for the last six years. I am forever grateful for the time that has blessed my life. I will be taking many parts of our philosophy with me always an educator. I hope to individually say goodbye to students and families during this next few weeks. With that said, Joel will be coming to the next community assembly meeting (Wednesday, May 11) in the library. This is a great time to get to know Joel and the gifts and fresh perspective he will bring the children, staff, and families at Chugach. I am so grateful to know someone as passionate about optional education and children, such as Joel is grabbing the baton. I met the beautiful children at Mt. View and while Chugach holds a special sparkle, I know I will be fulfilled in this next chapter. I know principal Joel will bring new gifts and I am excited for Chugach! I want to close this note with an additional thank you to all of the sixth grade children for the gifts they brought to Chugach. Thank you to their families for all they contributed to the community. I look forward to celebrating our children at our sixth grade graduation and know their futures are sparkling bright!
It's been an absolute honor! Clare “If you're brave enough to say goodbye, life will reward you with a new hello.” -Unknown |

Thank you to the Chugach community for its support of the Kindy Bread Sale! Our kindergarteners raised $1,129.86 to support our sister school, the Mauni School in Malawi. We are so grateful for your generosity and for this opportunity for our kindergarteners to see their own strong efforts produce funds that will have a life-changing impact on Mauni school children. A note from Julia, our Chicken Expert =): Our 16 baby chicks will be three-weeks-old this Wednesday. We’re in need of some foster parents with heated garages to host them on weekends until it’s warm enough for them to live outside in late May/early June. Our older hens will retire to Teresa’s house. The chicks basically just need to be kept safe away from other household pets, fed and watered and are otherwise pretty low key. The perk: They can be snuggled gently with adult supervision. We’re also in need of a large circular baby gate or puppy corral for their last few weeks before transferring to Chugach. Related: need some parents to help rehab and clean up the enclosure ahead of putting the new birds in. They can contact me to help or with other qs: juliaeomalley@gmail.com
