May Day
Did you know that the international distress call “mayday” was coined in 1923 by a senior radio officer at Croydon Airport in London? He came up with the idea because it sounded like m’aider, which is French for “help me.”

Who needs Botox when you can tone your face from the comfort of your sofa with three simple moves?
Check out the videos of Danielle Collins, “the world’s leading face yoga expert,” which came recommended by my fabulous and “youthful” octogenarian pal.

I confess I read the Daily Mail, and this story is so tantalizing I can’t help sharing it. Audiobook narrator Kimberly Wetherell is having a viral moment on TikTok, where she posts videos “Literary man shaming” famous and beloved authors for questionable depictions of women in their writing.
Kimberly calls it like she sees it. I apologize to the men in my life for this one, especially my dad.

The hilariously odd premise of the Japanese Netflix show Old Enough is that toddlers are filmed WHILE running local errands — alone! — for the first time. It is sparking much debate across all corners of the internet. I, for one, can’t look away.
(Guess who in her very first passport photo?)

I find Mother’s Day is always so loaded with complex emotions. This year I will make a donation in my mother’s name to World Central Kitchen’s ongoing efforts to feed Ukrainians displaced by the war.
And if I’m in the mood, I may also send these incredible pressed flower shortbread cookies from Elle’s Belles Bakery. They look 💜.
