"From our first phone call, I realized fashion was a vehicle for Indrajith and Amrit to express love for their cultures. They wanted to show both where they come from and who they are becoming," said Asanka de Mel, designer for LOVI. “We're delighted to have played a part in their wedding in Washington in the autumn of 2021.”

 

LOVI Sarongs worked closely with Indrajith to design a statement white silk sarong for the day 3 of the couple's multi-religious wedding celebrations. Honouring both Sikh and Buddhist traditions, the events were covered extensively by the acclaimed fashion magazine, Vogue.

Having met and moved to New York in 2015, both Indrajith and Amrit told Vogue how their hours together, "cultivated an understanding and deep love which continues to serve as the foundation of our relationship.” In 2019, Indrajith proposed to Amrit over a romantic dinner in Paris.

 

The celebrations, hosted in Amrit’s childhood home, included the Sangeet, Mayian, Anand Karaj, and Poruwa ceremonies. Amrit continued, “Celebrating our cultural and religious heritage took center stage at all our events. We incorporated historical elements in all our outfits and jewelry that we hoped would serve as a portrait into our ancestral past.”
