Kids POP (Power Of Produce) Club

May 15th (Water Wise: Keeping Hydrated)

Water is crucial to maintaining good health and well being. This week at POP Club we're going to take that understanding to a new level as we look at all of the ways water helps us live happier, healthier lives. Did you know that some fruits and vegetables like cucumbers, radishes and strawberries have such high water counts, that eating them can help keep you hydrated?! Wowza. Please pass the cucumber, I'm thirsty! While at POP, club members will be making rain gauges and trying some fruit infused water over at the 2-Bite club. Sounds refreshing!.

Vendor Spotlight - Heights

Meet Robert from Heights Coffee. He started his business out of a passion for coffee! Robert and his business partner Garnet would roast coffee on their barbecues, they would then trade with one other and compare notes. As they got more serious they purchased a countertop coffee roaster, and it was not long before they converted part of a warehouse (Robert's other business) into a full blown coffee roastery!
The name 'Heights' is a way to pay tribute to the neighbourhood that got Robert & Garnet started as friends. Robert's favourite thing about our farmers markets is getting face time & connecting with the people who make his dream of running a small business possible
You'll find Robert at both Coquitlam and Port Moody Farmers market this season. If he's not at market (or roasting coffee) you'll find him in his workshop. A passion of Robert's is to repair and up-cycle something that has been discarded, and give it a new life!

Wild, Native & Medicinal Plants Workshop - Lori Snyder, Indigenous Educator

We are excited to have Lori Snyder join us at the Port Moody Police Department Community Garden on June 4th! (Children free to attend)
Lori will guide us to understand the importance of native plants for food, medicine, and shelter for all species. Find out how to best use these plants, seasonality and when to harvest, and what can be made with them.
Lori’s vision is to continually co-create insightful dialogues, to remediate and reconcile with our Indigenous plants as we reintroduce them into our urban landscapes. By sharing and growing these practices, communities can access our true local foods and medicines, which support collective resilience and deep ecological healing for all species.
