Now: some real talk for companies in pride 🏳️‍🌈 season:
 
If 10%+ of your colleagues aren't out, proud, and loud, chances are there's something about your company that isn't safe or friendly for queer folks.
 
You're either turning (LBGTQAI!+) people away before they even apply… or your colleagues are closeted inside your company culture. Or both.
 
Yuck. Instead of hosting a one-off lunch-n-learn for pride this year, I recommend three much more impactful steps: 
 
  1. Make your company more LBGTQAI+ inclusive year round (think: nonbinary-friendly recruiters, trans-savvy managers, and amazing mental health services*).
  2. As a company, take public stands on queer/trans issues. (Anything that might move the needle will feel scary; that's how you know.)
  3. Ensure your products are friendly to the pride community. (i.e. Does your app only give two gender choices like it's 1999?)
