This year I'm already super leaning into those traditional summer things, even though summer in Florida isn't what I would call pleasant or easy. So I find myself reaching back to the things I enjoyed when I lived in the Northwest, regardless of my current locale. Things like stolen moments re-reading a favorite book, eating as much fresh fruit and grilled meat as possible, and revelling in the sun when it happens to be shining.
It's really more indicative of how I'm starting to approach life in general. I want to slow down and enjoy every moment, to let life move with the pace of the ceiling fan, and go for rest and quality over quantity. Which isn't to say I'm ignoring or turning a blind eye to the world as it is, only that I'm realizing that in order to continue to be a functioning member of society, I have to temper the general bad with a lot of small good. And if the last three years have taught me anything, it's that life truly happens in the small, in-between moments of the day-to-day. Mary Oliver said it better than I can.
So if you need me, I'll be stretched out under the ceiling fan, book in hand, gathering up lots ofโฆ
small moments of joy:
Ice cold cubes of watermelon, straight out of the open bowl in the fridge, while I stand there with the door open basking in the cool air
The neighbor's cats, who always look so contented napping on our porch and in the shade in our backyard, but who also left us the gift of a DUCK one morning.
Thank you so much for following along, First name / friend!
I'm so glad you're here.
KEEP TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF,
Mel
