Hey First name / babe,

If you're a business owner, entrepreneur, or someone with serious skills, you've probably thought to yourself before, “How TF do I start landing media opportunities online?” 📰

We've all seen those shiny ‘AS SEEN IN’ areas on websites listing noteworthy features and press opportunities, and we know those features instantly boost a business's/creator's/product's credibility and authority.

But before you dish out big bucks or hire an expensive PR expert to land an ‘AS SEEN IN’ feature, there are some ways to DIY your press accolades and dip your toe in the water of pitching.

Before I dive into some tried and true tips on landing press features, podcast interviews, and speaking opportunities, I want to say this 👇

Your number of media features does not equal your worth or ability to make money. There are hundreds and thousands of successful entrepreneurs online who are doing the damn thing without ever once being featured in a publication or a podcast.

Yes, press is good. It can give you that extra level of credibility, establish authority, and open up opportunities and doors you didn't know existed–but this is not something to stress over. Chasing press doesn't make you a better insert-skill-service-here. It doesn't mean you'll become famous or successful over night. And it sure as heck doesn't make you less than if you don't have them. 🗣

But, sometimes the only way to get noticed is to put yourself out there. I always say to myself, for every 5 ‘no’s I get will come a ‘yes.’ And that yes could be the one thing that makes waves for you or establishes the confidence you need to pitch your next big idea, conference, or podcast.

So let's get pitchin'.

TrIed & true pr tips
I've made pitching a staple in my monthly business operations, and I've set goals for myself to pitch to X number of podcasts/publications per month. Not only does this create a habit of writing pitches, relaying my value, and seeking opportunity, it also means I'm putting myself out there. This habit alone has not only landed me multiple press features and podcast interviews, but it's helped me feel confident seeking out opportunities and putting my name on the map.

Here are my top 3 tips for DIYing your PR:

  1. Create a Media Kit–If there's one thing you should do right now, it's create a media kit. When pitching yourself to events, publications, or interview opportunities, a media kit is essential. This simple doc gives all the details your actual pitch can't - think your experience, bio, headshots, accolades, and topics you're an expert in. Don't get overwhelmed if you don't have a ton of experience to include here; make the media kit informative & show off why you'd bring value to the audience you're pitching to. They have TONS of media kit PDF templates on Canva you can use to get started.

    * PRO-TIP: Instead of a PDF, create your media kit as a page on your website. This is so much easier to edit, stay on brand, and quicker to plug in as a link in pitch emails VS attaching a PDF document. Get some inspo from my media kit here.

  2. Start a Pitch List–Remember how I mentioned for every 5 'no's', you'll get a ‘yes?’ That means you need to pitch yourself a fuck ton. Begin creating a list of potential events, publications, podcasts, etc. you want to pitch yourself to (I keep track of mine on a Google Sheet). Spend a few hours researching to create a solid database of potential collaborations. Once you have a list going, you can fire of 10 pitches in a few hours. Anytime you come across a cool podcast or online magazine you feel you'd be a good fit to collaborate with, add them to your pitch list. Spend time once a week or a few times a month sending your pitches out!

  3. Scan HARO–The great thing about media is that there are TONS of journalists and creators all over looking to create a story, they're just missing the key piece - someone to help them tell it. HARO, Help a Report Out, is an online tool that connects journalists with experts for their content. 3x a day HARO sends out an email list {organized by category/industry} of current stories looking for pitches. Each submission is linked to an email, so you can fire off your pitch straight to the source. I've landed multiple interviews/press just by using this FREE tool!

Show yourself some love today, First name / babe.
you've earned it.
