Hi First name / there

I don't have it in me to create today. There have been more mass shootings than days in the year so far in 2022. I'm so mad.

When I lived in Jamaica, I fielded a lot of questions from my students about the U.S. Specifically, does Trump hate Black people, and am I afraid of getting shot. Hearing those things reflected back at me made me realize just how desensitized I was, that this is the reality we live in.

I think it's easy to feel hopeless after yet another mass shooting. I gleaned some hope from this episode of Today Explained, from reading policy reports like this one, and yes by making a donation to Everytown. If you have Congressional representation, call them.

Gun violence, like so many other challenges we face, is a community issue. I want to live in a world where community care is held in high regard, where neighbors watch out for each other, and where no parent has to fear for their child's life when they send them to school.

Sending strength,
Dominique

PS – I lowkey started a fight about historic preservation on tiktok. I'm looking forward to diving down that rabbit hole a bit more soon.
