Hi friends,
My kids finished school nearly a week ago. Since then, my body would not cooperate with me. It just finds the nearest couch or bed at home and lies down anytime it feels like it. Whenever it hears the alarm ringing in the morning, it mocks the night self that set it and gets back to bed triumphantly. Whenever its eyes catch daylight slipping through the bedroom doorās cracks while sleeping in the utterly dark bedroom, it ignores it to sleep some more.
I did not realize how tired I was until I did not have to drive kids to school every morning anymore. It felt like my body was rebelling against the āhave toā part of waking up and waking up at the latest time possible that could still get me to work on time.
Not only this, but in the evenings, my body has been demanding naps. If I ever took them before, the funny thing about evening naps is that they did not last more than 15-25 minutes. These longer naps, however, caused heart palpitation in the first few days in fear of some schoolwork I had to oversee or a bedtime routine I had to start. A bit sad, I know. I responded by gently coaxing myself back to sleep, assuring my body I didnāt āhave toā do anything.
I usually donāt purchase online courses, start projects, or set goals in July. I remember telling my accountability partner last year that I should start this in June, but I ignored my learned lesson thinking this year might be different. However, as Jon Acuff said in a course I attended recently, āletās not fight the cultural momentum; July is not January.ā Itās OK to give our brain and body some rest in June and July, and whenever we feel signs that we need more rest. We need to start listening and trusting our bodies; they will reward us when we do.
Do you find it hard to rest sometimes, too? Let me know by replying to this email. I would love to hear from you.
As for me, I assure you Iām doing much better now and totally embracing the sloth mode while it is here. I have fun family times coming up soon, as I suspect you do too, so the slothās visit is definitely short.
But this week?
I will do more resting, napping, snoozing, and blissful sleeping.
