THE WEEKLY GOOSE

NO: 073 |  07.06.2022
Good morning!

Did you know? Canada might be famous for hockey, but we've actually had our hand in many popular spots. For example, Basketball was invented by Canadian, Dr. James Naismith, who in 1891 defined 13 rules of the game while teaching at a local YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts.

On another note, we're still in Atlantic Canada. Right now, we're in New Brunswick, driving along the Fundy Parkway, which is easily one of the best road trips in Canada. There's so many beautiful views, but don't worry, you'll see it in one of our upcoming videos.

But without further ado, enjoy the 73rd edition of The Weekly Goose, which features a video about Fernie and the Kootenays, a travel guide Cranbrook, a travel guide to the Columbia Valley, and more!

BEAVER BITES

  • Travelling by plane isn't looking so hot these days. According to data from FlightAware, 65% of Air Canada’s flights were delayed this past Saturday, the worst of any airline in the world. Not far behind them was two other Canadian airlines - Westjet and Swoop. However, much of this turmoil is being caused at Toronto Pearson and Montréal–Trudeau Airports. We're flying into Toronto this Friday so wish us luck.

  • In fact, It's so bad that Air Canada is cancelling more than 9,500 flights. Yikes!

  • Speaking of planes, it seems like one solution is to pay people more. However, we had no idea pilots got paid so much. American Airlines, for example, is offering an increase of $64,000 to its pilots’ salaries, a raise that would give the airline’s top paid pilots a salary of US$425,000. Could Air Canada and Westjet follow?

  • Calgary's street art scene just got better. A German graffiti artist completed the world’s tallest mural on the side of a Calgary apartment building. At more than 311 feet tall, it takes murals to a whole new level.

  • Who doesn't like Broadway? Well, here's your chance to win $10 tickets to Hamilton, which is about to start in Calgary. In fact, you can enter this contest for Ottawa and other cities as well. Tickets normally cost $150 and up!
