“Such a marvel, the tenacity of the buds to surge with life every spring, to greet the lengthening days and warming weather with exuberance, no matter what hardships were brought by winter.”
Suzanne Simard
I want to marvel at all you & I have endured and that we still continue to show up, day after day. World events are excruciating, plus our own inevitable highs and lows. Oof (Big Sigh). Yet the process of growth and change is just that. Overwhelming. If life is feeling hard, you are not alone.

Have you ever noticed when you try to change an old behavior it seems to get a little louder and intense, and your efforts towards health have to grow? Whenever you change a system, it tightens it's grip. The system is trying to maintain homeostasis, scared of change and trying to stick with familiar to stay safe. This is normal, change is hard. When you strengthen a muscle it has to rip before it can be re-built, growth requires a break down.

Our society is being rocked right now, with so much pain and uncertainty. Understandably many hearts are hurting. I imagine the moment a flower blooms is wrought with effort, fear, and uncertainty. What will happen when I open my petals, and reveal my heart? Yet the flower chooses to bloom.

PRACTICE:

So bring a gentle hand to your heart in this moment. Invite tenderness to the scared parts and let yourself be held.

When ready, open to perspective. You hold within yourself the experience and resilience of your ancestors. A phenomenon called Epigenetics, where our genomes change and adapt based on environment and experience. Given this, we essentially can generationally pass down courage. Contact this neurobiological truth by imagining your ancestors, let anyone come to mind, and sense their strength. This may be a visualization or just a feeling in the body. It may be someone you know or someone ancient in your lineage. None of it matters. Just invite their wisdom to come to the surface for you. They may be sending you immense love, encouragement, and perseverence.

If this feels strange, that's okay. This is new science, and new practices. Stick with it, see what happens.

We can get through these challenging times together.

With Compassion,
Ellen
