July Newsletter

Hi friends,
July has come and gone and summer is officially winding down! We are so grateful to have been able to sneak in a couple trips this month before the kids headed back to school. It was so fun heading back to Boston, spending the 4th of July in New England and also exploring Vermont! We wrapped up our last week of summer at the beach in San Diego and connected with lots of friends we miss!

Believe it or not my kiddos are already back to school! They have year round school so it means they get out of school at the end of May, we have roughly 2 months for summer and longer fall, winter and spring breaks which we all love! We are totally into the swing of things and I wanted to share a few things that have really helped us get back into the school routine. I hope these tips are helpful and that you enjoy the rest of your summer.

5 Back to School Tips:
  1. Make school lunches the night before: It saves so much time in the morning. The girls really enjoy making their lunch and deciding what they want to make! Kids love to have a sense of accomplishment so involve them in the process and help them when they need it.
  2. Make your kiddos shower and pick out their outfits the night before: Another way to save time in the morning! Choosing their outfit the night before helps them avoid staring into the closet wondering what to wear - especially during the morning rush to get out the door and to school on time!
  3. Have lots of healthy and yummy breakfast options on hand: When the kids transition back to school they are always starving. I've been making sure we have a lot of nutritious food ready for them to start their day off right! (a few things we love ~ oatmeal, homemade egg bites, whole grain waffles, yogurt, fruit and a big glass of almond milk!)
  4. Make sure backpacks and water bottles are filled + chilled in the fridge so they are ready to go by getting them ready the night before.
  5. Make a morning to-do list that your kiddos can easily follow - this helps prompt and remind them for example to brush their teeth in the am!
Our mornings are way less hectic and chaotic when we get as much as we can get done the night before! We are then able to spend more time enjoying the morning rather than rushing around accomplishing tasks that could have already been done after dinner and before bedtime! Once you get into this routine you will find it becomes automatic and easier to get into the habit of doing every day.

Back to School Finds
We have been loving these morning rounds I found at Sprouts and our new favorite bento box!

We are loving these morning rounds for breakfast. I keep mine in the freezer (makes them last longer) and then warm up in the toaster adding cream cheese, butter, jelly or nut butter or sun butter spread! Our new Bento Box makes it so easy to prepare school lunch. This Bento Box is easy to clean, comes with a fork + spoon and I love the neutral color!

S'mores Smoothie Bowl Recipe
  1. Take 3-4 frozen bananas and blend with your favorite milk on the ice cream setting or low setting of your blender - we use unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Use 2 tbsp to ¼ cup of milk - the less you use the thicker your smoothie bowl will be.
  2. Add a dash of chocolate syrup and continue to blend, taking pauses to manually mix the smoothie blend (while blender is off) then turn on and blend again on low until it is completely mixed.
  3. Scoop out smoothie blend and prepare into 2 small bowls.
  4. Top with crumbled graham crackers, mini marshmallows, mini chocolate chips and drizzle with chocolate syrup.
  5. Enjoy!
*smoothie bowls are a take on a traditional smoothie - the difference? the consistency of a smoothie bowl is thicker - almost like ice cream!
