Winter skin can be tricky to manage. With minimal humidity in the air, chilly winds, long hot showers and exposure to harsh heating, winter conditions can take a toll on our skins. With winter now in full swing, your skins may be starting to feel dry and flakey, textured, tight and dull. These signs of dryness and dehydration can seem complex to fix, however treatment can be quite simple.
Firstly, it’s important to determine if our skins are dry, dehydrated, or both. A dehydrated skin presents as feeling tight – particularly noticeable after showering. Dehydration results from a lack of moisture in the skin, causing the skin to appear dull and lacklustre and with greater visibility of pores and fine lines. In comparison, dry skin results from a lack of oil within the skin, appearing flakey, textured, and feeling rough to touch. It is common to have signs of both dehydration and dry skin, and treatments for the two conditions are completely different.
