Dear First name / friend,
There is a trick to creating an easy, chic, go-to “uniform” that you probably may already use without giving it a name. It’s called dressing with a “column of color” and it is an easy way to #justgetdressed and look pulled-together and polished.
Start by creating a column of color with your neutral basics (or beyond basics). You can use any combination: tank/skirt, top/pant or dress or jumpsuit.. as long as it is one color.
Normally we think of creating a column with black or other dark neutrals - which is always great. Even in the summer, a column of black or navy or gray can look great as long as the fabrics are summery. And remember, a solid dress is a done-for-you column and has the same impact…whether in a neutral or a color. It could be longer like a
maxi or a
midi, or this
shorter one.
The “column” creates one continuous line and acts as a base. Then, leave it as is, or add a Third Thing, preferably with some interest or a color that complements the column. If your column is neutral, you could keep it that way, or add pop with your accessories (I just ordered
this turquoise statement ring).
The Third Thing works to add contrast which creates a visual that makes your body look longer and leaner. I love a WHITE column, especially with contrasting textures (think lace, eyelet, knit, etc). And don't worry if the whites aren't exact - in fact I love shades of white and cream and tan or taupe combined. Not sure?? Snap a selfie and see what you think. Want another opinion??
You know where to find us;)
Experiment and have fun! See below for some inspiration.
Cheers, and Happy FRIDAY!
