Dear First name / friend,
Today let's actually put on our B.S. and/or cover-up - whether you're going to the beach or pool or not. Are you game or are you flipping me the bird?
I know bathing suits are a “necessary evil” for many and some women just take a hard pass and skip wearing them. If that works with your lifestyle and you don't find yourself missing out or declining invitations, that's one thing. But it can be very liberating to reach a certain age where we can just put the suit on and enjoy the sunshine and maybe even the water, without too much angst.
And I find the key to this is the right suit of course, but also the right cover-up. Having a cover-up that makes you feel confident and chic makes the whole swimsuit thing easier. I do have a couple pieces of advice as it relates to this topic:
- Identify the part (s) of your body you like the most and work to play that up. Start there vs. focusing on the areas you want to hide or camouflage.
- I personally think solids and color-block suits are the most modern and chic way to go, but if you prefer patterns - that is totally personal preference. The other benefit of a solid suit is that it gives you more flexibility with the cover-up(s) you choose. But, you could go with a pattern suit and a solid cover-up if you wish. The benefit of a pattern is that it keeps the eye moving and camouflages lumps.
- Yes, you can wear a bikini at any age. Period.
- Yes, you can wear a skirted suit or board shorts - but only if you feel more comfortable in them…not because you think you “have to". Athleta is a great source for skirts and shorts that are sporty and modern.
- An alternative is to get a traditional suit bottom and add a sarong skirt (long or short) or pair of water shorts. I also like this classic swim dress/cover-up that provides some more coverage.
- I love a coverup that buttons or ties in front so I don't have to take it off over my head….Somehow it feels better to me and less like I'm getting undressed.🤪 I've had this one for 3 years and it's still my favorite. I love how I can close it or leave it open. A kimono is great solution too!
- If you're looking to add a modern trend to your swimwear, asymmetrical, one-shoulder suits are still very “in” right now. I personally love the look. This one has been named the Unicorn of Bathing Suits as it works so well for all body types and sizes and is so great-looking. It has 4k+ 4-star reviews. And it's on sale right now!
- And don't forget your flip flops, hat, beach bag and sunglasses! Check out my Amazon Storefront for recommendations as well!
HAPPY WEEKEND! HAPPY SUMMER!
