STUDIO JOURNAL
No. 2

A CELEBRATION  |  INFLATION IMPACTS  |  FREE MINI-COURSE
Welcome to my second journal entry, First name / friend!

I was so thrilled with the feedback and messages I received from my first entry (I'm slowly getting back to everyone who messaged) that it's motivating me to be consistent and to share real insights and not just ‘the highlight reel’.

A CELEBRATION
We're a little over halfway through the year so it's a nice time to look back on what we've achieved… while being careful not to compare our journey to that of others — because we are all traversing our own path (obstacles included!).

For me, my proudest moment this year came as a complete surprise! It wasn't a goal per se, but I guess it was a ‘goal’ once upon a time… back when I started my mission to become a full-time creative entrepreneur and I was hand-making things.

I always dreamed of seeing my products featured in either Frankie or Peppermint — two magazines that are well-known in the Aussie creative community.

So to have MYSELF be the feature in Peppermint magazine's Winter edition this year has definitely been my proudest moment thus far.

It's a delightful two page spread for their Powered by Spoonflower feature where I got to answer several questions and gush all about how I used Spoonflower as a springboard for my career… and how I continue to use the platform to live out my creative dreams!

I was not expecting this at all — it was a pleasant surprise that landed in my inbox during our last couple of days in Tasmania.

I asked how I was chosen for the interview, and the editor told me that "Spoonflower nominated you as someone who may be interested in taking part and we love the look of your work.”

So, where had the editor of Peppermint seen my work?

Instagram!

The subtle lesson I am pushing here is… keep sharing your work because you never know who might be taking notice without you even knowing.

The other cool thing about this article is that Daniel took all the photos. The day of the shoot was actually horrible  outside and our studio was SO dark inside. We'd already put it off a few days but the weather wasn't getting any better. We just had to get it done!

There was not a skerrick of sunlight in the room and to be honest… I was pretty bummed about it. But Dan did such a great job (even though I'm not the easiest person to photograph because I despise having my pic taken).

INFLATION IMPACTS
Inflation. A dull topic? Sure. Something we need to be thinking about in our business? Absolutely!

With the flood of money printing and demand outweighing supply of almost everything… chances are you've felt the impacts of inflation in your day-to-day living expenses. I can tell you — so have our clients and their customers. With that said…

Have you thought about how inflation might impact your creative business?

Truthfully, without Daniel I wouldn't have even given it a thought. Not for a moment! Thankfully, Daniel has a double-degree in Commerce and Economics and a keen interest in macro-economics, so he started the conversation with me around how it could impact our company and what we earn.

Now, I certainly don't want to bore you — but I do think it's an important topic to at least raise with you. I am keen to dive a little deeper on this topic in an upcoming journal because I think Dan and I could share some of the impacts that we foresee for our own business which might be helpful to you, also.

I'm keen to know if this is something that you'd be interested in?

One thing we've decided for certain is that nothing is stagnant and therefore we shouldn't be either. We should be looking for ways to be dynamic during these times because what might be performing well for our creative businesses may no longer do so at some point.

This month I am a proud affiliate for Stacie Bloomfield's Leverage Your Art course (I took it last year — it was insightful!) but before that, Stacie is launching her new FREE mini course called “The Artist's Side Hustle”.

It's a 4 part self-paced mini-course that begins on August 16 where Stacie will be sharing:

✅ 13 ways anyone can sell art
🗺️ a practical roadmap to get started + move forward
💡 answers to those art licensing questions we all have, and
⏲️ how to make the most of your time + set your dreams in motion

There'll also be prizes and live Q&As during the entire week. Woo!
This is a no strings attached mini-course.

You've got nothing to lose and everything to gain from an industry expert! I always get SO much out of these freebies.

Stacie KNOWS how to get your art onto products, the ins and outs of art licensing, and how to make money as a creative entrepreneur. And she knows how to get it done even though you're BUSY.

This free mini-course will teach you how to effectively use just 5 hours a week to pitch your art, create products, and move towards your goals.

I'll be in touch again soon about the mini-course and Stacie's Leverage Your Art course.

Not interested in hearing about this workshop? That's ok!

You'll stay subscribed to my usual updates. (I only want to send you stuff you really want!)

Until next time, First name / friend!
