August Update

Hello Community!

Here we are with our second update! It has been an extremely busy summer here at the Collective and I'm excited to share some news & updates with you all. In this email, I'll include info on:
  • Our Diva Cup Partnership (Free Diva Cups!)
  • Program closures/updates
  • Community Engagement Tour

Diva Cup Partnership

We have partnered with Diva Cup!
Through this partnership we have 180 diva cups to give out for free to Northerners!

Diva cups are reusable menstrual cups - making them an affordable and environmentally friendly period solution.  Along with the diva cups, we have travel size menstrual cup cleansers and menstrual education handbooks!
As a long time diva cup user (12 years!) I know first hand how game changing using a menstrual cup can be.

Diva Cups and other mentioned items can be shipped to you or you can come pick them up at our Yellowknife office. Sign up to get one here!

Program Updates

Our programming has been busier than ever this summer. We have been supporting a ton of pregnant folks and families lately, and we are grateful to be positioned to do so in our community.

That being said, due to staff holidays, we will be operating at a limited capacity between August 10 to September 23. Impacted programs are:

Evacuation for Birth Program: We will only be able to provide virtual gift cards and provide virtual supports between August 10-August 30 (at a limited capacity). The program will be completely closed from August 31-September 23.

Birthwork/Doula Support: Many of our birthworkers/doulas are away or taking a pause over the next couple months, so we have pretty low capacity to provide support until October or November. If your due date is in late fall/early winter, get in touch with us!

Community Engagement Tour
We are planning a community engagement tour!

Our goal is to visit all regions of the NWT and engage local governments, health program staff, MLA's, knowledge users, researchers, and most importantly, community members who might access birthwork services.

The goal of this tour is to raise awareness about NBC and our current programming, as well as gain a better understanding of community needs as it relates to reproductive health and justice.

Watch a replay of our info session above, or head here to let us know you'd like us to come to your community.
Knowledge Keepers Update

From Dehga:

With everyone’s busy summer schedule the Knowledge Keeper’s Advisory Committee is taking a break and we are planning our next meeting for late fall early winter.

During our next meeting we are hoping to concentrate on two main development areas: Ensuring that our knowledge keepers agree with how long our training program needs to be and working on developing day one of our curriculum.

We are still looking for more knowledge keeper’s from the Sahtu, Dehcho, Inuvialuit, and Akaitcho Territory, let us know if you know someone who is interested in joining our team!

That's it for this month, Thank you for being here!
So much gratitude for you all,
Sabrina
