Pivot, Segue, or
Collaborate:
What's Your Next Move?

Dear First name / friend
Starting in 2020, I kept hearing about pivoting. The word usually just inspires knee pain for me. But in 2020 pivoting brought to mind the younger generation of workers making the most of their pandemic-inspired unemployment to dare to move into their next chapter. However, I no longer associate pivoting only with the younger generation.

Recently I was settling in to start season 2 of a hit show. I have no doubt its success can be attributed to its ensemble cast of two of the oldest comedians still on the scene and a young pop star who was new to me. I’m not sure if you would call that a collaboration or an ensemble, but whatever you call it, it worked! The show was an attention-grabbing hit in its first season!

Odd collaborations in the creative world seem to be popping up left and right, and again, not always by those still blessed with youth. Dolly Parton took up an invitation from best-selling author James Patterson to co-write a novel with him. It might be said that Dolly, a songwriter, pivoted into writing books. It wasn’t a long pivot, but an inspirational one nonetheless. Once the project was done, it inspired her to write and record her latest album, Run Rose Run, the soundtrack and companion to the novel!

I would describe Bruce Springsteen's somewhat recent new project as more of a segue than a pivot: a performer and a public speaker coming together to create a podcast. While I am sure both presenters were pretty comfortable speaking into a microphone, their collaboration was a successful new enterprise for both of them. And like Dolly, one creative endeavor led to another: the podcast led to a book.

So if pivoting, segueing, and collaborating are not reserved for the young, what’s your next move?

Camelot already practiced the segue when we began offering storage services many decades ago. We collaborated with a body shop when we customized our trucks to improve those storage services. Perhaps our next move will be a pivot. For years now I have dreamed of working with a truck-driving school to improve the speed and quality of truck-driving education. Look out for Camelot Moving & Storage & Truck-Driving School…coming soon!

I'd love to hear about your upcoming inspirational pivot, segue, or collaboration!
