“I’m a big believer that artistic growth goes hand in hand with personal development. You have to know yourself to express yourself.”Andy J Pizza I love this quote from Andy and it's something I believe in too! I think that's what makes creating so special--it helps us grow not only as artists but as people. And since what we make is an extension of our experiences, emotions, skillsets, and imaginations, it's all so unique and different. That's why we can take the same prompt and all end up with completely different pieces which I love! I hope this week's prompt gives you a moment to connect with and express yourself, reflect on how far you've come, and where you'd like to go. Below are some ideas and inspiration to help you get started! |

INTERPRET & APPLY If a self portrait sounds like something you'd like to do, here are some questions & inspiration for it:
- Are you drawn to something more abstract or realistic?
- What would you look like as a whimsical illustration or character?
- What materials and tools represent you? Ex: flowers, paper, palette knives, recycled materials
- Will you focus on your face, entire body, or highlight a certain feature(s)?
- Are there interests or beliefs you want to incorporate into your piece?
- Do you connect with a spirit animal, astrology sign, Chinese zodiac animal, etc.? How can they be incorporated into your portrait?
- What elements, colors, and shapes do you connect with most?
- What are your different traits and characteristics? How can you add several of them into your piece?
- Picasso's self portraits from age 15 to 90
(I don't like assigning a specific way to interpret these prompts buuut I wanted to throw it out there that I think it'd be so cool to see all of our self portraits side-by-side in the photo gallery! :) No pressure at all and also no pressure to share.) - What makes you feel nostalgic? Create a piece inspired by this feeling or the item(s) that conjure these emotions for you.
- Create something in your current style--be sure to date it. It'll be fun to see how things have changed in the future!
- What does “self” mean to you? Self confidence, self love, etc.? If you don't normally work with text, this could be an opportunity to incorporate them into your piece.
- What are your wishes and dreams for the future? Do you have something specific in mind or is it something you're in the process of discovering? Translate this onto your page.
- Find a photo of yourself from any time of your life and use it as inspiration or even try replicating it.
Pick an idea to expand on and decide how you'll approach it in the upcoming week. |

What are you thinking of doing for week 4? Hit reply and let me know. I can't wait to hear! I'll check in with you on Tuesday. Until then, happy creating! |
