MOOD: "Baby, bye."

Not too many thought bubbles at the top this week, but a friendly reminder to wear your mask and wash your hands – The 'Vid is still very much so still outside.

In my latest for Wine Enthusiast, I spotlight Melody Fuller – a 40+ year wine industry veteran and the founder of the Oakland Wine Festival.

ICYMI: A cute recap of last week's Pass The Aux event here in Chicago. Many thanks to Jermaine and Derrick for having me host + everyone who came out to support!

Finally, we're about half way through summer, and I've yet to get through my audacious reading and wine lists. But I'm hopeful, okay? Below is a short list of wines you must get your hands on before September ends.

Five Wines To Try Before Summer Ends

Rosé with Cabernet Franc – While Cab Franc is often blended among other Bordeaux grape varieties, it's actually the parent grape of Merlot and Cab Sauv, and does extremely well as a single variety. And since it's still rosé season, you're going to get a lot of vibrant strawberry and raspberry flavors on the palate.

My bottle choices:
2021 Lieu Diet Rosé
Muscadet – If you're a seafood lover, or just enjoy dry, zesty white wines, this French selection is going to be your jam! Made from the grape Melon de Bourgogne, Muscadet is a fun and youthful wine, and has notes of lemon, lime and green apple. And best of all? It's really affordable.

My bottle choices:
2020 Oysterman Muscadet
2020 Marc Ollivier Domaine de la Pepiere
Muscadet La Pepie

Russian River Valley Pinot Noir – There's a really cool quality (literally) that I enjoy about RRV Pinot. Not only is it juicy, earthy and a little bit herbal, but with a little chill on it? It's a perfect pairing with BBQ meats.

My bottle choices:
2018 MacMurray Ranch Pinot Noir Russian River
 2020 Emeritus Vineyard Hallberg Ranch

California Chenin Blanc – There's something about Chenin, and when it's grown in California, it produces wines that are juicy, tropical, and really fresh. And just like Chardonnay, this grape variety is versatile and can hold up to grilled chicken or a hearty summer salad.

Merlot from Washington State – Me and Merlot are still trying to find our stride, but when I was in Walla Walla last month I was blown away by some of the selections I had. Lots of ripe cherry, plush raspberry and hints of cocoa and espresso come though on the palate here.
