I hope that you’re having a good week! First things first –
the final edition of Summer Reading Club is tonight at 7 p.m. ET! 🎉 We will chat about
this episode of the Ezra Klein Show, which features Jenny Schuetz, an economist and housing scholar that I admire. Here’s the
Zoom link!
As a reminder, during Reading Club weeks, I don’t write a regular newsletter. More on how that will look in the future below in the member survey results!
I’ve been a little quieter than usual on Instagram this week – it’s that time of summer when I have a lot to get done before the school year starts, but mostly, I’m feeling a little
jaded by social media right now.
Some bts info: I’m working on a redesign with a brand strategist, and through that process I know I’ll find a new sense of connection with my purpose on ~the internet~. For now, I’m listening to my body and taking breaks when I need them. Wanted to share that since y’all are a special part of my community. 🤗
Okay, let’s get to the juicy stuff…
Member Survey – Results and Next Steps
Thank you so much to everyone who completed our first A Place to Call Home (PCH) member survey! I enjoy writing these newsletters, but it can be so hard to know how I’m doing and if what I’m writing resonates with y’all. I will begin to implement a few changes right away based on your input, including:
- The newsletter will now be published biweekly. 88% of you responded that biweekly felt like plenty (honestly, I’m shocked but also delighted lol). You might still receive emails from me on a more frequent basis (like this one…which is technically not a real newsletter lol), and over the next few weeks, I will experiment with some new formats based on feedback from y’all.
- Design content! When I first created this community, I had planned to incorporate more design-related things but had a hard time figuring out what that should look like. My plan, for now, is to include a few design inspiration things in each newsletter and to also share more design-focused content exclusively in Close Friends stories on Instagram. If you have other thoughts on this, I’d love to hear them.
- Design Consultation discount for members! No one asked for this (lol) but I want to offer it anyway. PCH members will receive 20% off my virtual design consultation services when you book by October 31! Use code HOMIES at checkout. 😉
- Reading Clubs continue! After receiving so much great feedback from the Summer Reading Club, I’m excited to share that we’ll continue to offer a monthly reading club. More details to come on this, but I’ll host them on off-weeks (i.e. on weeks when we don’t have a newsletter).
- Coming soon: a resources page! If you’ve ever wanted a more comprehensive look at housing policy sources I trust or recommend, get excited because it’s on its way. Thank you to the person who shared this feedback in the survey!
Other new things aren’t off the table, but the changes I outline above are the low-hanging fruit.
Specifically, I’d love to bring in guest writers/speakers, but it’s important to me that I’m able to pay them for their time. I need to run a big membership push to make that happen financially, so that’s on pause for now. If you’d like to help get us there faster, I encourage you to
