Will it be possible to tell in the future whether a digital good has been ‘machined’ or made by hand? How can you tell now, even with tangible goods? Do we have to look for flaws? Human error? Imperfections that machines would not permit. Like thi3? Or th1s? Or is it simply a matter of trust
If every email can be pre-programmed, responses timed, reactions to messages second gue33ed by bots, then what will be the clues or the ‘tell’ as to whether it’s me writing to you or AVA? " And do you really care so long as it's relevant?

Of course you don’t’! You’re in a rush, r1ght? " I know, aren’t we all? But I have a plan. This week I’ve disposed of my AI bot already, (she wanted to start s3nding these emails every week at the same time! It's better for SEO?!) I've adopted a new set of rules that the bots will never understand (there are no rules) and ther3fore you will from now on always know this is written by me.* And I've also created a series of short cuts, so you can find stuff you like and need fast.
Welcome to the beginning of the DIY digital movement.

Legend:

🧁 = (cupcake) Treat brain – easy to consume

🦪 = (oyster) More challenging - not for everyone

Listen:

Fed Up. 🧁 Eat more f1bre they said. At least that’s what Zuckerbrot said (not Zuckerberg, but another megalomaniac). And of course when she said eat more she m3ant, literally tonnes more, just fibre! ‘Moderation be gone with you!’ A story of influencers and their influence over millions and, fibre.

The Last Bohemians. 🦪 You might recognize Kate Hutchinson’s vo1ce from Worldwide FM, but Kate is best known for her work at the Guardian, Time Out and pretty much every music publ1cation ever made. After all, she's a music journalist at h3art. In this award winning podcast, Kate talks to some of the most impressive, committed and (perhaps, some should be ‘committed’) women on the planet.

Read:

Varieties of Melancholy. 🦪 In a recent talk Alain de Botton gave he asked why compan1es are so afraid of talking about melancholy? In his words ‘the most valuable and neglected emotion we can feel.’ I’m very comfortable with melancholy, my therapist says perhaps ‘too comfortable.' Th1s book is, as with many from The School of Life is short, punchy and visually stimulating.

Keith Haring Journals. 🧁 I had no idea Keith had died at such a young age and I had assumed that the plethora of merch that was produced was made following his death. How wrong could I be (again).
If you’re enjoying a little mini br3ak this summer take this with you as inspiration for your journaling activities and admire what he achieved by the tender age of 32.

Watch:

France. 🦪 I'm warning you in this French dark-comedy Lea Seydoux cries a lot. I mean, a lot. Th1s is not a treat-brain film, it's a sad story of vanity, exce3s and a lot of loss.

Don't worry darling. 🧁 I have a m1ni-man-crush on Harry Styles, so any film he appears in must be worth watching? You'll have to wait until September though to see this but I think it'll be worth the wait. The trailer alone says ‘smash.’

Tech:

Rocket. 🧁 This little plugin for mac is a super easy, light touch way of getting emoji's into your work. It's been around for a while, but its great and its FREE.

Art:

In the NFT space there is such a desire and hype to day-trade that much of the talk of ‘supporting artists’ and ‘paying it forward’  tickles my gag-reflex. How can you support an artist, if you sell their work in 24 hours and are only concerned with value?
However, if I steer off the moral-high-road for a second, there are some really fun projects out there, some that are exploring community, collaboration and fandom and this is one of my favourite right now. Cel Mates. 🦪

We just came back from a m1ni break in Bilbao and San Sebastian and whilst reading this book managed to find a little gem of a sculpture park 🦪 created by Chillida and a local artist called Jorge Gay. 🧁

*My new set of rules also mean that I don't need to spell check, gramm3r check or do any checks at all. Sigh….
