Slatted Covers

This weeks notice is about our slatted cover systems!

Slatted covers are the most popular type of pool cover across the world, making up approximately 80% of the market. This is mainly thanks to the reliability and simplicity they offer. However, in order for them to work properly, they depend on the pool’s water level being correct so that they can open and close effectively.

It is very important to take care when operating your slatted cover.

XL Pools take aftercare of products seriously, we have many documents that provide information and advice on how to properly use and care for your pool equipment.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We kindly ask you to read the below if you have a slatted pool cover:

Do not operate the slatted cover if you notice that the water level is either higher or lower than normal, this could be caused by a few things;  a fault with the top up system / overflow or just after a backwash or heavy rainfall. On the majority of pools with slatted system there is an automatic top up and overflow so the water remains the correct height consistently

You must watch the cover at all times when being operated.

To open pool:

  • Turn key switch to on position
  • Make sure water level is correct.
  • Make sure there are no obstructions on cover or in pit.
  • Push open button on remote ( top left ) or key switch ONCE, the cover will slowly start to move and open the pool.

In the event that the cover doesn’t move remember the above and check you have power the the cover box unit. Secondly check for any error messages which would display on the panel.

The most common cause of the pool cover not moving is either:  “STOP ACTIVATED” or “W Level”

STOP ACTIVATED is easily rectified by turning key switch off and back on.

W Level is easy rectified by increasing the water level in the pool slightly or decreasing the water level in the pool slightly.

Following the pool cover fully retracting leaving the pool ready to swim make sure you can see the leading edge slat (first slat of the cover ) this is normally just under the water line in a vertical position for beachline type cover lid systems, or just inside the covered area under the pit lids flush to the coping stones.

To close pool:

  • Before closing make sure there are no people or any obstructions in the pool.
  • Make sure you have removed all cleaning equipment from pool including cleaning robots.
  • Make sure the water is the correct level.
  • Immediately after pressing close on the key switch or top left button on remote, it is essential that your cover moves in the correct direction without any obstruction.
  • The cover will move slowly in the closed direction and fully close the pool.

In the event that the cover doesn’t move at all repeat the above making sure there is power the the control unit and looking for any error messages. ( see notes on opening the pool above)

If the cover moves but then stops for any reason or you don’t see the cover emerge after 5 seconds, you must stop the cover as quickly as possible using the remote or key switch, this is because the motor and reel will still be turning unravelling the slats in the pit.

To stop the cover you can either press the top left button on the remote once or either button on the key switch, including turning the key to the off position.

Following this you can check the status of the cover and report the XL Pools for further instruction.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some clients or cover owners have dealt with similar problems with ease in the past, however XL pools at times may need to offer their services to assist with this.

In the event of a cover jam, either rectify the problem before further use or obtain further instructions from XL Pools. By stopping the cover operation within a few seconds of noticing any of the above signs, dramatically increased the chances of a easy quick and inexpensive rectification.

Call outs for covers will initially be :

£200 inc Vat (hour)
Thereafter it will be £75 an hour.

**All call outs are pre-paid charged unless you are on direct debit**

General tips:

• If the Remote doesn't work, check for dampness, avoid pressing fast, ensure cover panel has power, change batteries and make sure you are within range. Replacement remotes are 50 GBP + VAT

• Always ensure the slats are in direct contact of the water

• Do not remove slats from the pool. If they are exposed to direct sunlight out of the pool, they will discolour and damage.
