If you’ve hung around here for any amount of time, you probably know that summer is my favorite season. I love having my son all to myself and long days on the beach and warm weather and summer reading and all the glorious things summer brings. We play bingo on Tuesday nights and eat with the same group of friends every Friday while the kids swim. There’s such freedom in the lack of a real schedule. Not to mention that my birthday is in July! That said, being a North Carolina girl, I have always lived a life with four distinct seasons and while, yes, summer wins, they all have something wonderful about them! The only thing good about summer being over is… back-to-school shopping! Y’all, I love shopping for school supplies so much that it gets me out of my summer’s over slump. I love it so much that I wrote a whole column about it!
Check it out here. After that ritual is over, I’ll start to get just a little bit excited about pumpkin spice and boots (I love boots!) and going to Chapel Hill to see my Tarheels play football. And we’ll go to the mountains to watch the leaves change in all their glory. I’ll be happy about it when it’s time. But, for now, excuse me... I’m off to savor one of the few remaining beach days of summer!
