Ok, I'm being a little fictitious to drive home a point.
And it's this:
Your name is not likely to be engraved on a trophy for either how much you suffered, sucked it up or tolerated.
And you are also unlikely to get a medal for how confidently you navigate perimenopause to menopause to postmenopause.
But your “congratulatory scrolls” could appear in other forms: quality of life now & avoiding debilitating health conditions down the road.
(Here are just a few examples. Reply to this email and tell me MORE!)
- CONGRATULATIONS on talking to your doctor about sleep challenges & insomnia. By paying attention to your sleep, you also improved your relationships with loved ones, re-ignited your exercise program and made an investment in your long-term brain health!
- CONGRATULATIONS on having the conversation with your health team about the potential benefits of hormone therapy for preventing osteoporosis! You have reduced the odds you will become a statistic for hip fracture and other broken bones!
- CONGRATULATIONS for thinking of that hot flash as a tap on the shoulder from your body that it needed something. As a result, you ended up with a whole plan for prioritizing your heart health and more!
- CONGRATULATIONS on having your ferritin level checked. As a result, you eliminated headaches, hair loss, fatigue and restless legs!
- CONGRATULATIONS on moisturizing your vulva & vagina with hyaluronic acid. As a result you kept your pelvic health at the top of the to-do list and you helped to avoid reoccurring UTIs, discomfort while sitting and moving and sexual activity!
- CONGRATULATIONS on putting your own name at the top of the to-do list. You are part of the first generation to turn 50…and have 50 more years to plan for! By learning about your midlife hormone health, you played a role in bringing down the overwhelming statistics for women's heart disease, dementia, bone loss, vaginal dryness and incontinence. Way to go!
This is a partial list of examples…inspired by stories I heard from
members this week.
Still, there are many others who continue to stay in a place of “it's not that bad,” “I can tolerate it,” “my doctor told me it's just part of getting older,” or “I'm just trying to power through"…and to that, I hope you will join me in shouting out this important reminder:
“There is no trophy
for suffering or sucking it up.”
