How are you telling the stories of the communities you serve?
For many orgs, “story is currency.” It's what moves donors and volunteers to join the cause. The balance of making these stories ones that have an actionable impact WHILE ALSO preserving the integrity, wholeness, and power of the communities served is a constant struggle for many. “If I talk about our community as empowered, donors won't want to fund that!” I heard this statement earlier this month from a fundraising leader grappling with integrating race equity into his practice.
