This week is a big week. Kids go back to school
‘hurrah!’ hormones, tantrums, and indifference - be gone! And….. we launch our call for entries for the
Supporting Act Foundation. After a year of research, we are finally ready to start reaching out to emerging artists across Europe and getting applications in, to give them support ($) - I'd like your help. Please? Email me at damian@wetransfer.com if you're willing to help drive applications. I can then send you a load of gumf to share on the internet.
Then, once you've told the world about the Supporting Act and as soon as those prepubescent and pube-sprouting brats have walked through those school gates, lunch box in hand, I suggest you ‘work from home’ with some of the following research materials:
Legend:
🧁 = (cupcake) Treat brain – easy to consume
🦪 = (oyster) More challenging - not for everyone
Read:
🦪
The book begins with 'A case for longtermism’ and ends with
‘Assessing the end of the world and what to do.' Much like Sam Harris and Yuval Noah Harari, Macaskill makes philosophy easy to read in an incredibly optimistic manner.
Watch:
🧁
Sandman. I am not a sci-fi kid. Never have been, I found Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter ‘
a bit much.' However, Sandman I really enjoyed. It feels more Marvel than Tolkien and is just a really entertaining series, filled with just enough ‘dark’ to appeal to me.
🧁
From The BBC archives. A chilling version of working from home. Produced in 1977, ignore the machinery and voices and, well, it's pretty spot on.
🧁
Bad Sisters. The
Corrs attempt to murder their patronising, oppressive brother-in-law.
Listen:
There were so many podcasts I downloaded this past few weeks, some with phenomenal ratings, but I have struggled to find greatness. I might be missing something (brain fog and ADHD) so I've added a few below, perhaps there's something in there for you?
Clown Parade, a new podcast from Will Ferrell all about up-and-coming comedians.
Corked, everyone loves a true crime mini-series. This is all about wine!
Below are two shows I did really enjoy, however:
You have to bite through the accents, they grate a little (sorry but it's true) once you do, this is a fascinating story from Boris Nemstovs's daughter.
🦪
Art:
🧁
RIP Koons and move over Basquiat.
Rene Magritte is top of the charts.
🧁
Daily Art. A sweet little app delivering a piece of art every day. Simple.
Drink:
Seeing as the kids are back to school, you'll either start living life again and imbibing a little more or…no that's it. Here's what we've been drinking this summer:
4 Kilos. Wine from Mallorca. Gorgeous labels and
Vidionia from Tenerife - you can quite literally taste the volcano.
Adarbakar. A lovely Spanish sparkling wine. Very hard to find though.
Oikonomoy. Is some of the best wines we tasted from Greece.
That't it. If you enjoyed this newsletter please tell me and your friends. If there is stuff you'd like me to share, let me know!
