Hey First name / friends!

This month, we’re focusing on creating trend-focused artwork in preparation for setting up a shop in time for the holiday shopping season.

This week’s prompt is to create a checkered pattern! I’m always on the lookout for new trends, and when I saw checkered patterns emerging, I added a bunch of them to my portfolio. My checkered daisy print combines two trends in one (three if you count the retro color palette!) and it’s one of the staples in my Golden Hour collection with Contrado!

I’m going to dive into more info about checkered patterns in a sec, but real quick I wanted to share a bit more about Contrado since I’ve gotten some questions about working with them.

Contrado is actually a print-on-demand company like Society6 or Redbubble. Their focus is on sustainable, high-end products and I’ve been thrilled with the quality of their pieces!

I did a Q&A with Contrado where I share some of my best print-on-demand tips and more information about how I got started selling with them. Check it out here!

#CreateWithCatCoq - Checkered Pattern

Ok, back to pattern-making. The checkered trend is in full swing, so if you haven’t hopped on this trend, now’s the time to do it! And the best news? Checkered patterns are one of the easiest seamless patterns to create!

In this short and sweet tutorial, I walk through how to create a checkered pattern in Procreate.
If you’re unfamiliar with seamless patterns, I’d recommend checking out one of my in-depth Skillshare classes about pattern making in Photoshop or Procreate first.

Share your checkered pattern on Instagram with the hashtag #CreateWithCatCoq so I can like, comment, and share your work!
