Dear First name / friend

This little bit of rain and humidity is a welcome break from the heat we've experienced. I hope it continues, but weather has been anything but predictable around the country.

August was a nice, easy-going month – not too much to attend to; just enough to keep me busy and learning.

One new experience for me is grading some of the end-of-year papers for the Level 2 (second year) Yoga Therapy Trainees at Loyola Marymount University. (I've never graded papers like this before and consider it a compliment to be asked.) This is a great learning opportunity, since term papers have topics such as Yoga Therapy's effect on Asthma, Anxiety, Chronic Pain, etc., with considerable information, research and resources, should I decide to delve deeper (remember footnotes, anyone?).

And, I made time to write in my blog (thanks to the inspiring quote used as the title for the post).

on my end table:
THE AGE OF OVERWHELM by Laura van Dermoot Lipky. This is a re-read for me. She mentions 4 qualities of overwhelm, that I can relate to: Distraction, Depletion, Disconnection and Attachment. I'm distracted by media (social & otherwise); that distraction may contribute to my feeling depleted and disconnected. And, I can see that I am very ‘attached’ to my thinking and desire to manage situations. So, trying to control what I can, and let go of the rest. Good book.

And, fiction? A bit disappointed in the books I've been reading, so much so that I won't mention any this month. So much for the ‘sales’.

for more light reading:
  1. Abs anyone? Here are some ‘simple’ core exercises to try. One caveat - if you feel your low back or neck in any of these, modify by supporting head or low back (see #2 below).
  2. And, if you are serious about ab/core work, I highly recommend this tool: Coregeous Ball. When filled to about ⅔ capacity with air, it provides some great support for your spine!
  3. Cup of Jo newsletter — while I continue to mention this newsletter, the piece linked is a good and very relatable in my house (love her chair for clothes).
  4. And, again, my recent blog post is available for reading.

Until next time,
Leslie
