good news!

the water cooler.
Reuse is catching fire! In Brooklyn, this new collaboration with Re:Dish will divert more than 200k containers. (Wouldn’t it be great if programs like this could scale to an entire district?) Meanwhile, another group aims to bring refillable water to resorts, cruise ships, and campuses. In the UK, Selfridges aims for 50% refill, rental, resale, or repair by 2030.

Solar provided “grid residence” during California’s most recent heat wave and in Puerto Rico, where 40% of households have installed rooftop solar, it helped keep the lights on when Hurricane Fiona flattened the grid. And experts now say that U.S. power could be 100% renewable — and there’s no need to add expensive nuclear options to the mix.

New York just followed California’s lead by mandating that all new cars sold in the state must be zero emissions by 2035 and new data shows 50% of new cars sold by 2030 will be electric. Which leads me to wonder: It is crazy expensive to buy an electric car? Nope! New analysis by NRDC shows they’re about $10k more right now and installing a charging station will set you back $2k. But factor in tax credits and the math starts looks a whole lot better. Plus, they cost less than half as much to operate and maintain – and soon, some charging stations will let EVs send power back to the grid

Last (but most emphatically not least), new data shows that the voting future is female: In 45 states, the majority of new voter registrations are women. These voters prioritize climate. Let’s do this!

I am so proud to have helped bring to life this collaboration with STEAM innovators the Swaliga Foundation, Mr. IMAG (their visionary founder), and Big Blue & You, the only ocean conservation organization to be founded and run by African American women.

Together, we developed content and education materials for Mr. IMAG's new hip-hop track that features Big Blue & You co-founder and the original Mocha Mermaid, Danni Washington. The track dropped last week to commemorate Miami’s second-annual Big Blue Crew Day, which honors the work of the organization’s volunteers. Because there’s only one Big Blue! (After you listen, you’ll have an earworm for that phrase. You’re welcome.)
