Here is your weekly dose of The Sunday Spark ⚡️ a newsletter listing 5 inspiring things I thought were worth starting your week with: |

🧠 How to Change is a book that I enjoyed and finished recently by Katy Milkman, a world-renowned behavioral scientist. It is my kind of book, full of research and statistically significant results about the blocks that get in the way of human change, like getting started, impulsivity, forgetfulness, laziness, and confidence. It has a sweet Kindle price too (6$). Professor Angela Duckworth ( Author of Grit) wrote the foreword to the book and said: "What Katy has learned is that the secret to a better life is not to eradicate the impulses that make us human but instead to understand them, outsmart them, and whenever possible, to make them work for us rather than against us." |

🗣 Few skills matter more than effective communication, so why not learn to improve it? I loved the tips in this podcast/YouTube interview with Tristan de Montebello so much that I shared it with my friends over the past week. You will get so much value even if you just read the highlights. Remember: Stay in character. You can improve your confidence and public speaking skills using their web app Ultraspeaking. They have a free version of their product called The Basics. |

👂 We can never go wrong reminding each other to listen better: |
|
“If you observe the conversations around you, you’ll notice that, often, what many of us do is simply wait for our chance to speak. We’re not really listening to the other person, but simply waiting for an opening to express our own view. We often complete other people’s sentences, or say things like, “Yeah, yeah,” or “I know,” very rapidly, urging them to hurry up so that we can have our turn. It seems that talking to one another is sometimes more like sparring back and forth like fighters or Ping-Pong balls than it is enjoying or learning from the conversation. This harried form of communication encourages us to criticize points of view, overreact, misinterpret meaning, impute false motives, and form opinions, all before our fellow communicator is even finished speaking. No wonder we are so often annoyed, bothered, and irritated with one another. Sometimes, with our poor listening skills, it’s a miracle that we have any friends at all!" ―Richard Carlson, Don't Sweat the Small Stuff and It's All Small Stuff |
