“I was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer when my children were 2 and 4 years old. The day I told them I had breast cancer was devastating, but through the power of science I am still alive and fighting 7 years later! Every night I have the same dream -- that a cure for breast cancer will be discovered in my lifetime. I never want my children to have to worry about breast cancer” - Tami Eagle Bowling

Celebrate 7 with Denise and My Cancer Family!

It’s hard to believe but it’s now my 7th OCTOBER as a Breast Cancer Survivor.  While I wouldn’t wish cancer on anyone, I’m grateful to be here and share resources that can help all of you.  I can’t change my diagnosis or path, so I try to find the good in it.  That’s my “cancer hack” from my cancer journey!  What’s yours?  Please share, by replying to this email!

Throw A Ponytail Party
“Will I lose my hair?”  “Should I do the cold cap?”  “What will I look like?”  These are all immediate questions that popped into my head when I was diagnosed with Cancer and it’s a very scary reality for everyone diagnosed with cancer.  Hair We Share wants every person over 18 in the US with medical hair lost to receive a wig for free!  All you have to do is email them and wigs are gifted based on financial need!

In order to keep making wigs, they need your ponytails.  Perhaps, that’s the new way to celebrate with your friends and family!!!!  They will use your hair to make custom wigs to give for FREE to those who need it!  You can also join their ponytail tracking program to follow your hair journey and see the wig made from your hair.  That's a party or program that I'd go to anyday!
REAL PEOPLE, REAL STORIES:

Have you ever seen a landmark building in every single city in the US lit up at the same time to raise awareness and money for Metastatic Breast Cancer?  On October 13, 2022, you will!  It’s all because of Tami Eagle Bowling.

She wasn’t as lucky in cancer as I was, but she’s doing something about it for herself and every single person living or diagnosed with Metastatic Breast Cancer.  Tami Eagle Bowling is a wife, mom, humanitarian, metastatic breast cancer advocate and motivational speaker. She is the Creator of #LightUpMBC Live and the Founder of The Eagle Method, a framework for learning to build resilience to embrace uncertainty.

#LightUpMBC Live educates people about stage 4 metastatic breast cancer (MBC) and raises funding for critical research. On the evening of October 13th, every state in the U.S. will illuminate at least 1 landmark in the MBC awareness colors of pink, teal and green as a show of solidarity.  This all comes together in a virtual benefit featuring celebrities including cancer survivor Mathew Knowles (CEO, Music World Entertainment and Beyonce’s dad!) , Bruce Hall (REO Speedwagon), Daphne Rubin-Vega (Rent/In the Heights), Karen Finerman, (CNBC), LeA Robinson (Pose on FX), Miranda McKeon (Anne with an E) and more. There is also an exclusive interview with Nightbirde's family as well as music footage from the 30 year-old AGT famed artist who passed away earlier this year from MBC. All net proceeds fund metastatic breast cancer research for non-profit  METAvivor. The show airs on October 13th, National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day, through LiveOne and all METAvivor channels.

I will be Co-Hosting the show with Tami but the real stars of the show are the people living with stage 4 breast cancer who share inspiring stories in front of the iconic illuminated landmarks.   Tune in info below!

MY CANCER FAMILY:
Do you have any cancer hacks or what little things do you learn or can share to help others through treatment?

TAMI:
Uplifting Spotify playlists are my key for scans and treatment. Especially for the full body scans that take 30 minutes. I never leave home without my airpods!

MY CANCER FAMILY:
Do you have favorite products for going through treatment?

TAMI:
I love these waterproof affirmation cards that I use in the shower every day. Having the right attitude helps! Shower Affirmation Cards

MY CANCER FAMILY:
How did how did you come up with #LightUpMBCLive and get every city to take part?

TAMI:
#LightUpMBC started as an awareness campaign in 2019 to shine a light on stage 4 metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Each year, more landmarks have gotten involved to illuminate in pink, teal and green -- the colors of the MBC awareness ribbon designed by non-profit METAvivor. This year, all 50 states are joining the campaign in solidarity on October 13th for National Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness day. I created #LightUpMBC Live as a platform for people to see the landmarks lighting in solidarity around the country and hear stories directly from families affected by MBC. The campaign is designed to educate, inspire and raise critical funds for MBC research. All proceeds benefit METAvivor.
