2022 LCSE Global Sport Business Immersion Program - Student Reflections As we close out an amazing week in London, we’re beginning to reflect on our takeaways and exploring ways to apply this into our prospective futures. This week has been filled with incredible content and people who proved that creating long lasting, tangible impact and running a successful sports business are not mutually exclusive. We were immersed in the world of global sports, understanding what this business looks like across the globe, how fast it’s progressing, and learning how the people who are changing the industry get from point A to B. We were provided an opportunity to travel internationally and through it gained real world experiences and relationships we plan on holding on to as we ourselves follow in the path of the sports professionals who are making sports and the world around it a better place. Something we realized over the course of this trip, is that times are changing, being good on the field isn’t the only thing that makes an organization successful anymore, what makes it successful is prioritizing the needs of athletes and fans alike making sure that we’re tackling the bigger issues, using the platform that we are lucky enough to be a part of. With social justice, sustainability, and access to sports and education for all as key elements of business, organizations like Benchmark, Loughborough University, and the NFL UK are prime examples of what the future of sports can look like. The common theme that kept coming back meeting after meeting was that sports is more than just a game; we’ve learned that this industry, this community, has the potential to bring people together in a way that little else does. We are all honored to have been chosen as the inaugural class for LCSE’s Sports Business Immersion trip; all we can hope is that this program continues to provide the same opportunity to many more. Anthony Bonini, Jenna Fassio, Najah Liggans, Alexa Schlitt, Mirelle Schwalbach & Torrance Williams “I learned that each company’s desire is never about dominating the sports industry, but instead utilizing sports as a catalyst to create positive outcomes to the most pertinent issues the world faces” – Anthony Bonini |

October 5-6, 2022 The mission of the Alliance of Social Workers in Sports is to promote individual and community well-being through partnerships between the profession of social work and the field of athletics. We focus on partnerships in practice, research, and policy, with involvement and awareness in all areas where social work and sports systems intersect. The theme for this year's symposium reflects this mission by covering a broad range of sport topics. This includes everything from coaching practices, abuse and exploitation of athletes, mental health and well-being, to traumatic brain injury, ACES, athlete trafficking, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the impact of COVID on athletes of all ages. This year's symposium will offer three presentation types: paired presentations, themed panel discussions, and featured presentations. Additionally, the symposium will feature several keynote and invited speakers. |

October 11-13, 2022 Participants learn from female business leaders, athletes, and local and national education leaders within the inspirational setting of the Rose Bowl Stadium. The Symposium, executed virtually due to pandemic restrictions over the past two years, welcomed over 2,000 attendees from 33 states and 7 countries. It has been highlighted by keynote messages from influencers and iconic names such as former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Olympian Lauren Gibbs, Basketball Hall of Famer and Broadcaster Ann Meyers Drysdale, World Cup Champions Brandi Chastain and Julie Foudy, and actress and activist Sophia Bush, to name a few. While women are our main target demographic, it’s also important for men to join this movement. We need to empower each other. Young female and male leaders of the future have benefited from the Rose Bowl Institute’s approach to learning from sports values and experiences. The fall virtual program will once again highlight the three pillars of the Rose Bowl Institute: Sportsmanship, Leadership, and Citizenship through its key panel topics focused on empowering and inspiring. |
